VW Golf GTi Mk2 1.8 20v Turbo Black Small Bumper 1989 (F Reg)I am now relisting with no reserve. Please only bid if you want the car! No silly offers, bids or swaps etcWelcome to the auction for my black small bumper 1989 mk2 Golf GTi. I am going to be as honest and descriptive as I can about the car but happy to answer any questions queries etc. I also have a number of other photos I can send through if required. I purchased the car in 2019 from one of my best friends who was emigrating to Canada knowing it had some little bits to finish off.It started out as a normal 8V GTi and over the years my friend added a number of aftermarket modifications such as smoked rear lights, different wheels, tinted windows, different side repeaters etc. All these modifications were probably the in thing at the time but I wanted the car to look standard. Since my ownership I have purchased/fitted all the original rear lights, side repeaters, front indicators, original grill, G60 steel wheels with wheel spacers and removed the tints. The car seemed a little bit spongy when I test drove it so I had a brand new full set of KW Variant 2 adjustable coil overs installed (These cost £1300 new). I would have probably fitted power steering to it at some point as well but that is down to personal preference. The car has an alarm fitted but I have never used it. I always use the key to unlock it.The engine was installed by the previous owner and his VW mechanic friend probably 2-3 years prior to me purchasing. I believe the car was dyon'd and setup but I do not know how much power it runs as he has not kept the receipt. As you will see from the photos the engine needs a tidy up. You will see that in the top left hand corner the ECU is wrapped up within a bag still. It just needs properly mounting. There is a bigger intercooler fitted as you will see from the photos. Because of this the grill protrudes out a little. These are things I would have carried out if I wasn't selling. It is worth noting that the car starts, runs drives lovely. I recently carried out a 200 mile round trip in it to Bicester heritage and it didn't miss a beat. It may also want a service of some sort as I am not sure when the last service was carried out. The previous owner had a full custom stainless steel exhaust fitted which I think was around £600. As it is turbo'd he wanted it to have the turbo burble. It has a Ramair foam air filter installed so the car sounds like it has a dump valve. It is one of the things I find fun about this car.The engine is from a 2002 golf GTI. The gearbox is 02J. There is an adjustable boost gauge installed in the open compartment space above passenger legs and below the passenger glove box. When the engine was fitted the previous owner did not change the gearbox to match. Since in my ownership I have installed the correct gearbox and a brand new clutch.Inside the car is pretty standard with the exception of the additional gauges installed (boost, temp, etc). The car has a nostalgic flip front CD player and a sub in the boot (which I love). It just reminds me of being younger cruising with the music on. The seats seemed to have faded over the years but I think this is pretty normal. They do not have any rips or tears but the side bolsters may have dropped a little. The previous owner had the headlining completely re-upholstered. Apparently a common thing on golfs. The car does have a sun roof but I have never opened it. I was just worried that it would never close or it may be broken. I have not really needed to do anything with the interior as it was all left as is. For some reason the rev counter does not work but this may be because of the gearbox installed. When the car was MOT'd the station also told me the reverse lights do not work and this was for the same reason. Yet again, another job I would have completed if I was keeping. The exterior of the car is in ok condition. The previous owner has had some panels painted on the car so it is by no means perfect. It is still shiny and looks cool but it is noticeable once you get round it. There are some chips and marks here and there but the car is 30 years old! I have just had it fully machine polished and detailed so it is ready to go.There isn't much in the way of history with the car with the exception of some MOT's from when my friend first took ownership. It does have the original book pack and some manuals. I am by no means a VW expert so I am not sure if these would have been the original's that came with the car. Please please please be open minded when bidding, it is a 30 year old used classic mk2 golf at the end of the day. It hasn't been restored and it is not going to win any awards for being concourse. Its just a fun cool car. The car is absolutely usable and drives very tight. It has just gone through an MOT and has never missed a beat. Since 2019 the car has been sat in storage and started daily. The first time I properly used it was the trip to Bicester and when dropping off to garages etc to have the work carried out. The last owner averaged about 200 miles a year for the last 10 years so it really has done no miles. I have nothing to prove how many miles the 20V turbo engine had when it was fitted. The odometer is showing 92,300 miles but this will be relative to the old GTi engine. In my eyes the car is 80% complete and it just needs some love to get the remaining bits complete. Or you could just leave it as is and use it.I have set a fairly low reserve compared to other cars out there because I know it needs a few bits doing to it. It needs somebody who is going to enjoy using it and doesn't mind spending a little time on it.As I said above, I am happy to answer any questions and send any photos through if needed. I will not swap for anything. I will not deliver. There will be no test drives unless I am confident you are serious. It will be cash on collection only. Please only bid if you are deadly serious. The winning bidder MUST purchase the car within 7 days as I will need to give notice to the storage facility. I am not a business and will NOT accept returns. I have told ebay this but it would not let me uncheck.PLEASE NOTE: THIS AUCTION DOES NOT INCLUDE THE NUMBER PLATE. IT WILL BE BACK ON ITS ORIGINAL F REG NUMBER PLATE WHEN SOLD.

I have received a couple of messages regarding the engine number and turbo. The guy in storage looked this morning and the engine number on top is 'AGU' and the turbo is 'KO3'
