" If you have something that is of superior quality, and you look after
it, it will last you forever "

First registered and pre delivery inspected by Medway Mercedes
Benz dealer on 07.03.1997 to a Mrs Poulter of Kent. The car still
wears its supplying dealer number and plastic number plate surround.
It has all the original handbooks intact, an unused full set of tools
and spare wheel that has never been on the road with a brand new tyre
fitted, plus two keys. Showing a very low warranted mileage of
48,000 miles. Complete with a history file that contains every MOT from
new and the original bill of sale costing £42950 on the road. This is
the very last of the model and easily the most original W124 I have ever
seen, its as it came out the factory.
The W124
These cars were made during the best years of MB and are vastly superior to
the poor build quality of the later models that replaced it. They were truly
over-developed which is why they commanded such high prices when new. To
this end they were very much cost prohibitive and retained remarkable residual
values over the 24 years that has elapsed, now they are starting to rise again
as there is simply put," nothing like it ". In fact its a miracle that Mercedes
actually managed to manufacture it all with a margin of profit such are the
high levels of engineering and quality materials and detail present in putting
it all together. Certainly could not be done now mainly as these materials
and processes are no longer employed in the mass production car business,
and it would be a non-profit exercise!
Condition
Its not a restored car, rather an original survivor. Original paint
throughout which retains a glossy as new appearance. The interior is
in excellent condition. The operation of the gears and brakes etc are
superb, the suspension is like driving on air, soft and supple and has
real grace. The steering is so fluid and precise. Mechanically it feels
like a new car. You would struggle to find a stone chip on the paint,
zero rust, under the arches are super clean, immaculate alloys with excellent
set of definitive Goodyear Eagle tyres, MB mud flaps.
The cabin looks as new with next to no wear to any of the leathers
or the switch gear. The door shuts, engine bay, B posts, inside
the petrol cap, you could eat your dinner from, its that clean.
Everything is working as intended, even the troublesome seat belt butlers.
The climate control is cool, 4 electric windows and electric mirrors,
remote infa red central locking, 2 stage heated seats, Sony flip period
CD hi-fi, electric anti roll bar rear head restraints, and quilted
branded MB luxury fitted mats.
Investing your money in this model is a safe prospect. The build quality and
craftsmanship on these era of Mercs will never be seen again, truly an over
engineered feel everywhere and is the stuff that the Mercedes legend has been
built on. Values of good original W124 models are rising year on year.
This is one of the very last of the ‘proper' Mercedes ever made. These
vehicles are quite simply a joy to drive. The high standard of build quality
and durability defined the reputation that MB still exploit today
despite that it peaked at this moment. This was the finest luxury car
in the world, it was built to a standard that other manufacturers
could only gasp at, setting a benchmark of engineering excellence
that has not been surpassed to this day. The mix of chrome wood
and leather still oozes a cigars and champagne class that makes you
feel like a film star every time you drive it.
I have probably overstressed the message already, however this is a
very very nice Mercedes and those who come to see it will be
absolutely delighted with what they see. The classic colour scheme
can only enhance the long term residual of this we sweety that should
be wrapped away in a bubble only being brought out
on dry days.
