Triumph special TR6 2600cc

A period correct 50s Racing car, built by an extremely talented and respected Jaguar C-D type racing driver and classic car engineer.

This 1950s era race car was built around a Triumph chassis about 13 years ago, it is registered as a Triumph and has historic status, meaning no MOT or road tax is required. It has, however, been MOT'd every year to demonstrate it is road legal and will be sold with a further 12 months MOT so you can be sure the Triumph meets today's requirements.

This Triumph has most people stumped when it comes to naming the car's make; I have been asked if it's an Aston Martin, a Jaguar D type, a Ferrari or a BRM. It clearly looks and sounds the part, it's a Sammio Spyder body, built around a Triumph Vitesse chassis and TR6 engine.

If you like the howl of a period race car then this is for you! It makes a glorious noise out of the twin exhausts; blasting around the country lanes between Windsor and Ascot, I can say I have never had so much fun in any car, it's an absolute hoot to drive, stops traffic, and is a total head turner!

The engine, a TR6 2500, has been completely rebuilt and over-bored to 2600cc, fitted with new pistons, con rods and a competition cam shaft, twin chains and vernier pully, and the cylinder head was gas flowed.

This extremely potent and powerful engine is mated to a four-speed gearbox with overdrive, weighing a mere 690Kg means this Triumph really does fly. It's been campaigned on various track days, sprints, hill climbs, and days out to the coast - there's evidence of scrutineering stickers within the cockpit, adding to the real 50s race car feel.

Featured in the very last publication of ‘Kitcar', you'll find a fabulous and detailed eight-page review of this very car, including interviews with the builder, the history of the car's development, and technical insight into how it was engineered; the magazine will be included within this sale.

Sporting the registration BRT 512H (BRITISH), adds to the charm of this 50s racer, she has been lovingly painted in British Racing Green, and adorned with period decals and racing related badges.

The interior continues the theme of 50s, with matching period vintage racing seats, safety devices, four-point racing harnesses, and a fire extinguisher. The spare wheel is tucked discreetly behind the rear deck.

The Triumph rides on 70 spoke wire wheels with spinners, and period correct knock-on hubs which are wrapped in good quality tyres.

A fly cut period instrument panel, with all the necessary gauges for oil pressure, temperature, fuel, and a very handy cigar lighter for charging your iPhone, plus a satnav to pinpoint speed cameras!

Flick up the ignition switch cover, press the start button, and the big straight six racing TR6 engine barks into life - this really is a fun race car. Sliding into the snug racing seats instantly transports you back to the golden era of motorsport, Moss -Hawthorne-Ascari-and Fangio, Goodwood Monza and Le Mans.

Goodwood revival is a few weeks away, what better car could you take? Unless you have a spare million pounds, and an original D type, I doubt much will come close.

So, to recap, it's a road legal 50s inspired racing Triumph Spyder, with a fresh engine rebuild with 12 months MOT, it's on the button ready to be enjoyed - it will give you the biggest grin, and the satisfaction that no one will have a clue what it is.
