EXTERIOR
Identified by its slightly longer wheelbase and iconic Kammtail rear end the striking silhouette of Aston Martin DB6 has aged delightfully, capturing the quintessential DB design ques with a hint of Italian inspired flair. Presented in its factory designated finish of Dubonnet Rosso this example is exceptionally charming, with a light metallic flake capturing the Aston's elegant flowing lines. Contrasting the gorgeous red finish sit flashes of brightwork around the car, including the iconic DB grille and Superleggera badges on the bonnet that can only be found on early examples.
Having been fully restored condition of the coachwork is superb; with a full photographic log the bare metal respray and invoices totalling almost £20k it's no surprise this stunning example sits free from any signs of corrosion, with a radiant shine enveloping the cars curvaceous form.
INTERIOR
Appointed in a combination of supple black leather hide and beautifully machined chrome trim, the cabin of the DBS exemplifies the level of luxury and craftsmanship synonymous with the Aston Martin name. Spanning the seats, doors and dashboard the lavish leather upholstery presents in exceptional condition, as do the complementary black carpets, which were all completely replaced during the cars extensive restoration.
Furthering the Astons grand touring credentials the inclusion of a Becker Mexico Radio/Cassette player and a retrofitted air conditioning unit make the car the ideal candidate for a cross continental blast.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Featuring twin overhead cams and a triple carb set up, the DB6s 3,995cc inline 6 engine is an exquisite piece of engineering. Built on the same block as the DB5 it produces 282 bhp and gives the DB6 almost identical performance figures, despite the extra weight of the car, managing 0-60 in less than 7 seconds and going onto a top speed of 148mph.
Paired to the engine is a factory specified Borg Warner 3 Speed Automatic which suits the GT character of the Aston, utilising the engines impressive torque to deliver a smooth and swift driving experience.
Subject to a full engine rebuild less than 4k miles ago mechanical condition of the DB6 is impeccable.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Contrasting the deep red finish sit a classic set of 15″ chrome finish wheels with factory optioned “3 ear” hubcaps, which present in excellent order. Matching Avon Radial tyres sit at each corner, with ample depth remaining all around.
Disc brakes at the front and rear were certainly a luxury in 1966 and make a noticeable difference to the handling of the DB6, as does the suspension, with independent wishbones at the front and shock absorbers at the rear which could be adjusted via a dial on the cars instrument panel.
HISTORY FILE
Built on 19/07/1966 this incredible DB6 was sold to its first owner by Lex Garages on 03/02/67 as outlined by a copy of the original delivery invoice and factory build card, which also outlines the factory options list of Dubonnet Rosso paint, Conolly VM8500 leather, Borg Warner 3 speed gearbox, 3 ear hubcaps, power operated ariel and a heated rear screen. A vast and detailed history file tracks ownership and servicing throughout the cars life, with 7 owners detailed in a copy on the original ownership log and V5s and service invoices dating back to 1975.
The current owner purchased the DB6 in 2004 and set about an extensive restoration of the vehicle between 2005-2007, having the aluminium body professionally restored by specialists Autopshop before going to marque specialists Ian Mason and RS Williams taking on the re-assembly over the 2 year period. A full photographic log of the restoration accompanies £40k+ of invoices that breaks down the extensive list of parts and labour the car was subject to.
A full engine rebuild was carried out in 2013 at 78,548 miles with, invoices totalling over £10k, and has covered less than 3,000 miles since the work was completed. Maintenance of the car since the restoration has been taken car of by Aston Martin Works, with invoices totalling over 20k outlining replacement timing chains and renewed the suspension/braking systems in 2015/16 to ensure this DB6 was kept in perfect working order. The car also visited RS Williams in September 2017 for further maintenance, which included a service and MOT, before the car went into long term storage.
Present with the car is the comprehensive history file, photographic record of the restoration as well as the original sales invoice.
