Seller's notes: This car is an almost 45 year old modified collector Muscle Car. It is a miracle that cars like this are even still around this late in the game. This is considered by me to be a fixer upper that needs things done to it, but in reality it is probably on a par if not better than many cars guys are trying to sell as being just fine

This 1969 AMX is a running
and driving car. but is being sold at a discounted price because I consider
it a fixer upper. It was a current license plated legal driver (plates
and paperwork still there) until the beginning of this year with different
engine.
Originally this was a 290.
auto. power steering. power disc brake. Alpine White car. It now has a
freshly rebuilt and upgraded 360 engine and a newer 727 Torqueflight Jasper
rebuilt transmission. Videos of the car running are included in this listing
The car has a fairly solid
body and it is a far cry better than most of the total basket cases that
are advertised as "project cars" but are in reality completely
disassembled wrecks missing many of their parts and needing not only body
repair on every single panel surface. but interiors and drivetrains completely
redone. I am calling this car a project because it needs attention in
a few areas and is not quite ready for full operational service
It was painted in a theme similar
to Dick Teagues factory prototype all white 1968 AMX with the body colored
bumpers like a Big Bad car. but in white. I am not an "AMC Guy".
but I have owned several 68-70 AMXs and AMC Jeeps. so I know a fairly
good amount about them. but I am not a expert on all things AMX as I primarily
have the other big 3 companies muscle cars
XXXX
I want to be perfectly clear
that the buyer will need to make repairs on this car and that the buyer
can't come back and say "You didn't tell me that". I am listing
everything I have found. but I have not flipped the car upside down or
X-rayed it. so I cannot say for certain. I have gone to great lengths
to provide details and video proof of condition - most ebay ads have about
30 words of description and a few standard template pictures for you to
make a determination from. I feel I have done quite a bit more than that.
If a person bought a roller.
or a disassembled car they would have a far LESS degree of certainty of
what works and what doesn't - at least this one is running and driving
- and it doesn't even look that bad
The fact is you cannot find
a 60 s Muscle Car this nice for what I am asking. let alone one with proof
of a rebuilt drivetrain. so whatever else that might need to be done will
just have to be accepted and understood
The drivetrain is pretty much
new as well as many other items - a list of parts is included as well
as videos of the car in operation
·
Lots of new parts
· Professionally Rebuilt 360 engine with High Performance
features
· Edelbrock Torker Intake

work

Overall the cars body is probably
a good '6 footer'. A body man might be more critical. but most of the
'car people' observers seem to think it is pretty good. It has a 20+ year
old paint job that has been maintained over the years by touch ups and
spot repairs so you will be able to find evidence of this which you may
not detect in these photos - the camera is not magic though. so the car
does look like it does in these pictures. but the finer points of detail
do not completely resolve
There are videos showing a
thin refrigerator magnet sticking to the body down low as well as a hand
knocking on the panels to give the buyer an indication of the metal -
I am sure there is still fill all throughout these areas. but it is not
a bucket of bondo. Some
of the trim has been painted white which I am not fond of - likely done
when Miami Vice was still new on TV
There is some rust in the floorboards.
but the unibody structures and frame seem to be fine - I have seen this
rust in many 68-70 AMXs. This is mainly located where the rear foot well
area would be and where the front seat bolts to the floor and it is not
everywhere - It is not a Flinstones car. but there is metal failure in
these areas
There is rust under the filler
panel from the trunk lid to the rear window that will need to be addressed.
This and the floor board issue are probably the worst parts of the car
as far as we can tell
The underside of the deck
lid and hood have some spots of surface rust - the hood is better than
the deck lid. The paint in the door jams and under these areas is yellowed
and aged looking. The weather strips in these areas are shot and need
to be replaced. but the trunk weather seal is new and supple
The Grill was indicated to
be an NOS replacement part in the paperwork we got with the car and seems
to be very nice
The car does not smell like
a 'stored' car - no musty or rodent smell at all
XXXX
The car drives fairly well
from a period correct standpoint. The suspension should be evaluated before
hitting the road hard - this includes test drives
The wheels look decent. are
pretty shiny and have not been curbed - I think they are Pro Wheels version
of Centerline Champ 500 s. and may have even been made by Centerline's
foundry for them. The centercaps are not correct. Naturally the tires
are older and used. but they are not dry rotted and have no cracking.
Tread is worn. but visible - not completely bald.
The 4 piston Bendix Dic Brakes
were rebuilt not too long ago. and we have receipts for this. and the
bleeder screws will open on them and the rear wheel cylinders. There is
a rotational sound when the car rolls. but I believe the car has fully
metallic pads and this may be what the sound is - I have seen this on
my other cars with Bendix 4 pistons. I have checked wheel bearings and
they seem to be OK and packed and preloaded. Some new brake lines have
been installed. but need to be clipped in place. The rear brakes come
on too strong in my opinion and an adjustable proportioning valve should
probably be installed.
The car steers fine and brakes
straight aside from the rear brakes coming on strong as a previously mentioned
XXXX
XXXX
XXXX
The paint still has shine and
reflects. but it is an older paint job - the car would be an easy repaint
to higher standards
XXXX
Headlights. high beams. turn
signals. brake lights. windshield wipers. stereo. dash lights all work
as well as the charging system.
The car does not have any shorts
that drain the battery

You will notice the following
sitting in the car:
The horn is not working. The
tach is a functional unit. but has not been connected to the new electronic

interior dash parts come with the car including an AMC AM radio and console
parts
The interior has non original
seats - not even sure if they are AMC. The dash has cracks on top of the
passengers side. The woodgrain looks pretty darn nice. especially on the
console. but is non original. You do get a nice place to mount 3 or 5
instruments as the speaker holes are removed and the AMX serial tag is
mounted low
The steering wheel is a vintage
woodgrain unit. A more modern Grant wheel is included too. The stereo
works and has Kenwood speakers. but is nothing spectacular
The shifter for the original

the retrofitted 727 Torqueflight. The carpet looks OK. but is not correct.
Most if not all of the interior lights function. The shifter lights up.
the dash lights work. the dimmer works. the console and shifter lights

but an auxiliary starter button under the dash triggers the starter. The
emergency flasher button is missing. The turn signal lever works and cancels.
but is loose. All the lights. blinkers. windshield wipers work. The heater
hot-cold control lever and cable works. but the diverter valve on the
intake manifold is stuck in one position and needs service or replacement
The door panels are likely
fabbed pieces and not original. The window regulators work and roll up
and down fine. The door locks work. The seat belts and shoulder harnesses
are present. The original headliner shell is intact and has been recovered.
The sail panels are aftermarket plastic. The rear bulkhead has two 6 x
9 Kenwood speakers mounted in it
