1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass S
1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass “S” 4-Door Sedan. This is the year when Oldsmobile was the bestselling mid-sized sedan in America. And. for a good reason – good looking with distinctive body flares. simple and reliable. fuel efficient at 16-18 mpg and powerful engine with reasonable body weight . Go back in time with this completely original one owner car that we purchased from Vintage Vehicle broker in CT. The condition of this truly affordable American Classic is simply amazing. You rarely see a 36 year old car in its factory original condition – original body panels. original paint. original interior …. Original everything. even windshield wiper blades.
All Cutlass models were morphed into the colonnade look for 1973. The appearance was basically the same through 1975 and was known as a “Colonnade” era.
The "Colonnade" era. named for the styling which was that of pillared sedans and coupes with frameless windows similar to a hardtop but with a center post to meet impending Federal roll-over mandates that were rumored to have outlawed pillarless hardtop and convertible body styles. Arguably. 1976 was the best looking Cutlass S because of the facelift introducing rectangular headlamps and a slanted nose. The car loos fast sitting still. Look at the production numbers for 1976. Colonnade coupes - 59. 79 and Colonnade sedans - 34. 95 were produced in 1976. It is very unusual for manufacture to produce almost twice as many coupes compared with sedans. Usually it is the other way around. That is why you more often see Vintage Oldsmobile Coupes (2 Door) and very rarely Sedans.
