1957 Austin Healey BN4 100/6

How's this for a restoration project: South African import (Zambia). not a rot box. far from it. Imported by my friend and long time associate in the classic car scene. so here's the story. Working in Zambia for 12 years he acquired three vehicles during this period in the seventies for restoration to bring home when returning to UK. a 1927 Singer 10 HP Tourer. Model T Ford and the above Healey. He managed to restore the Singer over there. but not the Ford and Healey. However he did bring them all back home when he decided to return to the UK. This only added to his already large collection of historic motor vehicles he had in storage here in Aberdeen. Scotland.

My friend has asked me to sell this vehicle for him as he realises the years are charging on now and the priority is his 1937 Derby Bentley 4. 25 (he has owned this car since before he was married). The Bentley is a long-term restoration that requires finishing off so that his wife can get to ride in it for the first time. His wife is very relaxed about his historic vehicle activities by the way; after all she has a 1939 Rover 10 Coupe of her own! Don't ask about the Model T Ford. this was disposed of a few years back.

Now the car itself – What you get is basically a whole car that requires a complete ground up restoration. The chassis is rolling with the body tub loosely fitted with wings. doors. bonnet. boot lid. screen etc. . as per the pictures listed. with five decent wire wheels. I also noted a spare bonnet lying in the corner. All the main panels are in good condition. some past small weld repairs to floor pans and a couple of inner wing panel cracks/splits. The chassis has no rot. but there has been some heavy weld repairs around the LH front shocker mount pedestal. probably the result of accident damage – this will require careful attention. probably jigging/alignment checks! There are two engines that go with the car a 2. 6 original type and a 2. 9 (3 Litre). The 2. 9 was a known runner and came out of a A99. However with standing for ten years things have tightened up and it will not turn just now. There is an early cylinder head for the 2. 6 engine and I understand this will fit the 2. 9 engine if this option is used. The vehicle and all the spares. engines etc. . have been in dry storage since being back in the UK. an important point to note.

Overdrive gearbox is available. condition of overdrive unknown. There are spare instruments/clocks that will go with the car. As well as soft top frame. side screens. there is a hard top with rear window available. There are loads of spares. fuel tanks. exhaust. dynamos. starters. shocks. suspension arms. telescopic shox. bumpers. carbs. heater box. brackets and fittings. generally most parts to get the car back on the road – eventually. In the event of any items that may be missing or options taken to renew anyway. there is strong support for these vehicles to completely rebuild them here in the UK. Many items new and second hand are always available here on E Bay!

The green import chit is available. this states 1960. as the actual date of the car build when in Zambia could not be established. so this was a bit of a guess at the time to get the paperwork finalised and the car away for export. Once the vehicle and new owner was back in the UK. further research confirmed it to be 1957.

There is a reserve. please don't ask. it spoils the fun. Looking at the prices they are asking for complete wrecks from the States. this car could be a bargain and it is an original right hand drive. Completed vehicles similar to this seem to be asking between £30K to £70K. depending on condition. history and when restored etc. Check this out for yourself.

I have loads of extra pictures for serious bidders just ask. give me your E mail.

The car is stored in Aberdeen. Scotland and would require a heavy trailer to take it away with all the parts/spares. engines etc. . not being fitted - bring a mate to help load up. The journey up here can be a long haul if you are south in England. but if you make it a fun run. enjoy the scenery. castles. mountains and if you dare the whiskey trails. For further info. please call me 07836559381. ask for Bernie. Text me your E mail if you require to see the extra pictures or study the ones on E bay in better detail.

A deposit will be required from the winning bidder and the remainder may be paid on collection. but please discuss payments before doing any transactions.

The car is in secure dry storage just now and there is no great rush to get it out of the way so you will have time to sort out any logistic issues. however my friend could use the space!

Good luck with your deliberations and thanks for listening!
