The 924 and 944 were a steep departure from the usual VW/Porsche driveline architecture. featuring a front mounted water cooled engine and rear wheel drive platform. The 2. 5 l engine powering these 944's was also a new venture for Porsche and featured innovations such as a counter balance shafts that smooth out unwanted vibrations.
