VW Early Bay Window Westfalia Camper Van Type 2 Motorhome not Splitscreen

VW Early Bay Window Camper. 1971 so the best year as it has all the looks but with the advantage of servo assisted disc brakes as standard.

Left Hand Drive which is no problem when you are sitting up high or for trips in Europe.

Imported from Sacramento. California so virtually rust free.   The battery tray has been replaced. which is a common problem area. along with two small patches in the original cab floor.

Registered by myself in June 2012 so only one careful owner!  MOT until next year and free tax.

When I purchased the vehicle the vast majority of the restoration had been completed all to the original specification.   New ply trim and roof panels have been fitted along with a rear re-trim in the original Westfalia style vinyl.   The front cab seat covers and door panels are TMI items in the original style.   New German quality window rubbers and door seals have been installed all round.   All of the original furniture has been re-installed.

I replaced the upper hammock with a Continental bed kit from Evolution VW so that my two children could both sleep in the pop top.   This has been great as they like to go up in the roof during the day and use the pop top as a play room/den.

We have been away a few times this year and it has been great fun and much more individual than using a modern vehicle.  

The pop top canvas is in good condition and I reproofed the canvas last year.

As with most American imports as soon as you start using them all the rubber components disintegrate and this was exactly what happened so the bus has all new brakes including rebuilt front calipers. flexi hoses. rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders.   The drive shaft gaiters have been replaced and this year I replaced the front suspension ball joint covers for the MOT.

I fitted a correctly made and rated tow bar so we could use our cycle carrier as I did not wish to fix anything to the bodywork.    I have not towed anything with the bus and have no intention of doing so.  

As with most older vehicles they do require some regular attention and I have replaced various items during the last year including the dashboard (American radio installations leave a lot to be desired!). speedometer (made a lot of screeching noise and then failed to show speed). carburettor (worn spindle).  

The bus is Waxoiled to prevent further corrosion.

A tuner/CD is now installed with Ipod compatibility. a new stainless aerial and four speakers so that you can either have tunes in the front or the rear depending whether you are driving or relaxing.  

This is a very sound. usable example of the best year bay window camper and is standard with the exception of a mild lowering job undertaken by VW specialists Harry Harpics.

Included in the sale is my grey Royal Traveller awning (shown in one of the pictures) which is hardly used and in good condition.

The bus can be viewed at Pevensey. East Sussex and will not be released until funds are cleared.
