1940 Cadillac LaSalle Series 52 Coupe

The car seems to be original 1940 throughout. 1940 is the last year LaSalle's were made. I know it is hard to believe. but I have had several people look at it who know. and they agree that it seems to be the original 73 years old inside and out. but is in what can almost only be described as near perfect condition.   It is stunning. Everything works. Even the AM radio although there are no stations. The windows and wind-wing cranks and all the interior fittings all do as they should. The heater is excellent with upper and lower. fast and slow. The car can easily be driven with six people in it. three and three even though it is a Coupe.
This car attracts attention on the road. Filling up with gas takes a while because of the questions. People wave and shout and give you the thumbs-up. It gets photographed everywhere it goes. It is really a fantastic example of the type and there are very very few of these left. even fewer that are original 1940 paint and interior with all numbers matching throughout.

Paint: The paint has an overall stunning gloss to it and a few minor areas where it has almost been polished through. just where it is a little thin.   The perfect patina expected for the age.
Interior: The interior is like new. There are a few stitches just starting to move around the heel-pad on the driver's floor. other than that the interior is perfect.

Underside. There is no rust. It is very very solid. It is sealed and is a bit dirty as you would expect. but it is all dead straight under there and is surprisingly oil free.

How it drives: The car starts with the turn of the key and then you push the starter button and the engine idles almost silently. The shifter is three on the column and is effortless and silent too. The brakes work very well as I have just had them bled and had a new master cylinder fitted.   Tires are very good whitewall Firestones. It pulls well and is very capable of being a daily driver.

Engine: The engine is the original1940 GM Flathead V8 at 322 Cu and 125 HP. It has 73. 00 miles recorded. It does not use any oil and it does not leak.

A Little History of the LaSalle.
In 1939-1940 Cadillac. assigned the LaSalle as a companion marque to fill the gap that existed
between it and Buick at GM.

In its final years. the LaSalle once again became more like a Cadillac in its appearance and details. The narrow radiator grille opening was retained and was flanked by additional side grill work. Headlights. which had moved down and been secured to the "cat-walk". were again attached to the radiator shell.

The LaSalle emerged with a smooth-flowing design. its trademark thin radiator flanked by a series of thin chrome slots. giving it a futuristic look for the 1940's.
