VW CAMPER - PROJECT - USA IMPORT - EARLY BAY WINDOW - 1969 - TIN TOP VOLKSWAGEN

Here is a Ratty USA import Early Bay (VW Camper?) Project.

It is a tin top model. No pop top. So it is warmer inside when camping and less chance of leaks!

It could easily be on the road this summer.

It has 5 opening 1/4 lights - thats cool!

This Volkswagen was imported from America last year and comes with its Washington State Title and the C&E386 Form.

I purchased it by mistake. (an expensive mistake!) . I won an Auction that I never had any intention of winning (I thought some one else would bid more! - hence it is for sale again - its cheap!) I'm a man of my word. so I collected and paid for the van. I have no real need for it.

After I collected it. it has sat in my garden all winter.

I purchased a good solid front bumper and loosely bolted it on. (these cost over £150 with ends and brackets at the shows)

The bus was apparently used to ship in a load of car parts inside it . hence the interior is bare. Just 2 original cab seats (both need triming)

The Bus has no engine. but it does have its gearbox. It was aparently in use around the American owners yard up until the engine was removed just before the van was imported to the UK.

It didnt have an engine in it when I got it so I havent checked to see if things like the gearbox works. obviously!

The van is a lot more solid than a UK Bus. but still needs some welding.

The gutters are very good.

The Cab doors. Tailgate and engine lid are very nice too.

The sliding door needs some love asit is dented. but is very savable / usable .

It appears someone has started rubbing it down then left some areas and put black and grey primer paint on others. it looks worse than it is in some places. Other places look as bad as they are!

It has also had excessive Bondo (filler) shoved badly into it. it needs someone with some time on their hands and some sand paper to rub it back and tidy it up. much of it is quite solid - but some of it needs love .

There is rust. - It is old! - 44 years old.

From a quick look I can see it will need. Both battery trays. Sill repairs. front jacking points. Cab floor repairs. front lower valance corners and rear cargo floor repairs - there may be more?

The front arches are nice and the seatbelt mounts are good.

The main chassis rails. front axle beam and suspension all look solid.
 
The bus rolls fine. It steers. (steering wheel on the left! LHD )

I have not checked any of the electrics.

The rear tyres look good. The fronts are not.

The bus was a deluxe. but someone has put bondo in the screw holes for the side trim - easy to poke out should you wish.

The bus comes as per the photos. nothing more. nothing less.

Viewing recomended and expected.

Its a 44 year old Project vehicle all the way from the Olympia Washington State on the west (dry) coast of America.

I think it is a good project for some one with a bit of energy.

I'm sure there is lots I have forgotten. I will update as I think of things.
