Selling my Mercedes Benz W116 280 SE from 1974. Although the car is generally in good condition for it's age. the engine is seized. I was given this car by an old friend recently when he had to make space. It is the same car I tried to buy 27 years ago for about $12000. but the then owner couldn't bear to part with it. I think she was the second owner. and my old friend was the third.
It is in medium metallic blue. the paintwork is generally very nice (repainted some years ago). The interior is bone coloured but the drivers seat was replaced with a mismatching seat from a donor car last year. and I wasn't able to get a match since then. The tyres are Michelin whitewalls in good condition but they are old. Although the car has 463k on it. it hasn't done much in recent years.
When I was given the car. that owner's bush mechanic had told him that the fuel pump was gone. In fact. the fuel pump couldn't engage because one cylinder had moisture and rust in it. My own mechanic says that it is possible to dry this out over months then turn the crank by hand to get it moving again but I don't have the patience for that.
The donor car that gave us the seat is currently for sale on Gumtree in Bowral for $500 and it did have a good motor so you might think it worthwhile to buy two and make one.
There are a couple of bits of rust and a couple of dent in the right front guard. Otherwise it's a beautiful thing. The car will have to be towed. I am located in Bowral. 1 hour south of Sydney. Collection can be on a Saturday. Sunday or Monday.
The starting price is the least the car will go for. There won't be a buy it now price. If it doesn't sell once. I will relist it. After that I will learn some patience and do the right thing by the engine.
