VW Type 25 German Firetruck Camper 1987
Ok then. here goes.
I'm testing the waters here - my wife wants me to sell our campervan and buy a T2.
I bought this in 2009 direct from Germany and drove it over myself and got it registered in Gosforth DVLA.
It had been picked up from the Fire Department in Osterode am Harz (twinned with Scarborough) by a specialist VW Campervan conversion company Camper4U and they'd fitted it out with bespoke units. full width R&R bed etc. They really only dealt with converting brand-new T5's and this was a bit of a project for them.
It is in superb condition for it's year - you honestly won't find one better. I've only ever seen another 2 - one was in Holland - and they were tatty in comparison. There is very little rust - just a slight bubble or 2 but none at all where it matters - just look around the window rubbers. it's perfect. I can guarantee it's had no welding and can get it put on the ramps at a friends garage for a full inspection underneath (request photo's if you want?). Remember that this has been in a Fire Station for most of it's life and been properly looked after. I've also looked after it - it's been serviced every March when I bring it out of storage (I keep it over the winter at a friends double garage - in the summer it's kept in a marquee at my house). It's not quick but will sit at 60mph all day and it's surprisingly economical. It's the 1. 6D watercooled engine.
It's pretty much standard apart from the Golf Mk1 Cross-hair lights I've fitted which look great and always get comments.
The sirens and lights all work - the Bosch siren/PA system is under the seat and can be easily disconnected. There is a mic on the dash to speak through the roof-top speaker if needed.
There is the original bench seat in the front so you can fit 3 in the front and 3 in the back - all legally with seatbelts. It's got 2 good modern speakers in the front doors (bottom) and it's got a mechless Clarion MP3 player/radio - it plays SD cards and connects to your phone via bluetooth. It's very discreet (I bought it as conventional players with a CD mechanism are too long and stick out). There is a heater under the back seat which works from the heat of the engine (you can see the vent in the pic with the firemans helmet).
The sink has never been used - I've taken the water canisters out of the unit to give more space but I can easily put them back.
This could be a show-vehicle if needed. but it's also a fantastic campervan. We've taken it to France and Spain these last 2 years and it's never missed a beat. I've just spent £795 in May on a fully recon gearbox from VW Heritage (all receipts available and remainder of 12 month warranty). The year before I replaced the clutch. I'll try to find the receipt - if not I may be able to get a replacement from GSF. I've just fitted 2 brand new Michelin Agilas to the rear and it's got 2 Goodyears on the front with plenty tread.
It's got approx 1600km on the clock - it's just rest itself after 100000. It had about 90. 00km on it when I picked it up and I would imagine it's correct (I don't think the Fire Department would have been into clocking!). That's approx 67. 00 miles.
It was the main feature in the May/June issue of VW Camper & Commercial (4 centre pages) and I'll include a copy of the magazine if it goes.
If you want something totally unique yet practical this is for you - you will get stopped in the street and everyone will want a photo.
It's got about 9 months MOT left on it - I always get it MOT'd at Halfords and it has only ever failed because of the window washers being blocked. and tyres. Taxed till the end of October.
So there you have it.
Please give me a call if you want to discuss anything. Remember that this vehicle is 25 years old - if you've got this far you'll hopefully understand what owning these vehicle is all about. I will obviously allow anyone to come and see the van.
I'll consider a swap for a decent T2 bay (bodywork must be great - not bothered about the interior). Or maybe  T25 Westy.

I'd prefer cash but will accept paypal if the costs are shared.
This is where it's from - it's got a great history :) http://www. ff-osterode. de/

I've just found the original german documents I got with the van. and I forgot to mention that I've got a service book with the 3 services it's had in the UK in it.
