Austin Atlantic A90 Convertible - Classic Car

Launched in 1949. the Austin A90 Atlantic was by far the most flamboyant model in the otherwise staid Austin range. the retro-futuristic styling was penned by Ricardo ‘Dick' Burzi. a riot of chrome. curves and quirkiness. the Atlantic was aimed squarely at the American market and was instantly identifiable by its Cyclops-style third headlamp. the same lusty 2. 6-litre four-cylinder engine that was later used in the Austin-Healey 100 sports car. it had a four-speed column-change gearbox and could cruise all day at 80mph with another 12mph on tap when needed.

With only a handful still surviving. these glamorous machines rarely come to market and all are increasingly sought after today. as its accompanying Heritage Certificate confirms. this particular A90 Convertible was first registered in Middlesex in May 1950.

Advertising on behalf of my father who for over 10 years treated this car to a total body off nut-and-bolt restoration which has resulted in the fine specimen you see today. Every single part of the car from the chassis up has been restored or renewed. including a bare metal repaint in Speedwell Blue. the interior retrimmed in cream leather with navy carpets. rechromed brightwork. rebuilt brakes. suspension and a recently fitted reconditioned gearbox. A new hood has been fitted and its frame finished in chrome. both hydraulic powered hood and window operation working perfectly as they should.

Since the car was returned to the road in 2006 it has been used regularly. clocking up some 11. 00 miles including several continental tours. The engine was fully refurbished last year (less than 1000 miles ago) with new pistons. bearings. seals. cam / followers / pushrods. oil pump. gaskets etc. all rebuilt around a reground crank costing over £5000 to complete. it is wonderfully smooth and sweet with fantastic oil pressure Indeed the whole car looks and drives beautifully.

A well known Atlantic to the A90 Club and twice displayed at the NEC classic car show. this lovely old cruiser comes with a large file of bills and photographs documenting the restoration. On the button and ready to go. it is only reluctantly being sold due to the advancing years of my father.

A very rare car in outstanding condition. admired where ever it goes and open to genuine sensible offers.
