Well. where to begin!I have had this Beetle for 7 years. buying it from this site in fact! I had seen the photos on the listing and travelled up to Rugby with the money in my pocket. I was only going to get the train back if it was a total dog! It was a rover colour at the time. Nightfire Red and looked like a deep pink in the pictures. the only other reason that I would have come back on the train! It came out of the garage and was a deep burgundy metallic. so that was ok! And it wasn't a dog!I used him for commuting down to Oxford each day (an hour and 10 there and then back again) for 2 years. didn't miss a beat. I was only stood at the roadside once and that was my own stupidity - ran out of fuel!! (I've never done that since by the way. lesson learned!!). He was then laid up while I got a job more locally so I was using a 1955 Austin A 40 during this time. Then. bite the bullet. time to fully restore the Bug!He had a new unleaded 1600 engine from Volks Spares fitted in 2002. rear badge still says VW 1300 as this is the model. The easiest way for me to detail what I have done is to list it. so here goes:
All welding done. fully waxoyled underneath. New wings all round New exhaust silencer box & fitting kit New grab mount cover New hub seals rear New bumper irons front New chrome bumpers front and rear New front apron New white mud flaps New decklid latch New chrome rear light surrounds New rubber rear light backs New number plate light rubber New running boards and chrome trims New Cal look window rubbers New rear drivers side window New aerial New Bosch wiper blades and rubbers New chrome indicator tops on front wings with new clear lenses New stainless headlight eyebrows New stainless wing mirror with white surround (matches white wing beading)New chrome outer door handles New rubber door seals New door operating seals New bumper iron rubbers all round Chrome engine vent trims New chrome plastic half moons Shiny new telescopic aerial
Engine:New rocker cover gasket Full service and carb strip and rebuild by 'Thingamies' Air Cooled New fuel pump New in-line fuel filter at the front (tank end)New dizzy cap. leads. points. plugs
Interior (I spent too much!!)Custom vinyl seat covers from TMI in the USA. dark red with chalk white inserts and chalk white piping. looks fantastic!!New chalk white doors cards for the front and rear. I even spent the extra on getting an elasticated pouch on the passenger side to match the drivers side!New white pull handles for getting out of the rear New chrome inner door handles New chrome window winders Bespoke chrome door pulls Wolfsburg edition door lock knobs and chrome gear knob I have recovered the rear kick plates in white vinyl and painted the outer heat vents white to match and also placed the speakers on these boards. and yes. you guessed it. painted the speaker grills and surrounds white!New carpet set about 4 years ago New Stainless door sill covers New headlining White passenger dash handle All new dash knobs Chrome dash 'drain' trim to inside of windscreen New gearstick gaiter Chrome drinks holder'Bambus' parcel shelf fitted Lower metal to seats painted white to match New black dash vents New indicator stalk assembly Rear of back seat sprayed white to match interior New seat pads Red seatbelts New interior light New chrome/rubber pedal cover set Original size steering wheel sourced. bought and fitted!1 rear lap belt fitted. this hides under the seat for shows but is handy if you have a rear passenger
Wheels:I have purchased and fitted a set of 8 spoke white with polished rim EMPI wheels from VW Heritage and fitted them. this was very recent and they are unmarked! Colour coded red brake drums set them off New wheel bolts New chrome wheel bolt covers Chrome wheels centre covers Chrome tyre valve sleeves with chrome caps
He was stripped fully last summer and sprayed. Rutland red. white wing beading. nice wheels. ready for the shows. He starts on the button and is a dream to drive. loves the motorway! As you can see from above. I HAVE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY!! I took him on the Brighton Breeze last October and he was VERY much admired! Nothing to do except (and bear in mind he is 42 years old) - his speedo gave out last week with the needle popping off the spring. a typical VW 'quirk'. but if thats all you've got to do - it can't be bad!!
Please come and look. inspection welcome and encouraged for peace of mind.
This has been a lengthy and expensive restoration but I must let him go. I have other projects on the go!
A £200 deposit is required through paypal on auction end please. Cash on collection or bank transfer.
12 months MOT (No advisories) . 11 months tax (its free!). reliable. so many looks you wouldn't believe! If you don't like being stopped at the supermarket etc and asked questions about it or don't like it photographed then please don't bid. The last photo that was taken was on the A 40 last Tuesday when the guy in a car behind me got his mobile out in heavy traffic and must have taken about 5 photos.

Hi
I just wanted to drop you a quick note. I thought I would look on Google to see if I could find my old beetle and there it was.
I love what you have done with it. I owned it from 1987 to 1994 and it was blue at the time. I am just glad someone had it that has done it up. Good luck with the sale.

Regards

Angela
