The Jaguar XJS is a luxury grand tourer produced from 1975 to
1996 and replaced the E-Type. Although it never had quite the same
sporting image. the XJS was a competent replacement with better
aerodynamics than the E-Type. The last XJS was produced on 4 th
April 1996. by which time 115. 13 had been produced during a
21-year production life and its specifications compared well
against Italian cars with acceleration of 0-60 mph in 7. 6 seconds
and a top speed of 143 mph. The first series of XJS cars had a
Borg-Warner Model 12 transmission however. in 1979. GM
Turbo-Hydromatic 400 transmissions were fitted. In 1983. a new 3. 6
litre AJ 6 straight-six engine was introduced a hugely flexible
unit and an extremely popular option.
This is a race prepared XJS in Jaguar's racing Silk Cut livery.
The AJ 6 3. 6 litre engine has been bored out. rebuilt with race
camshafts fitted this high performance unit is fitted to a quick
change gearbox. The car has been lightened and strengthened with
the necessary roll cage fitted. The bonnet and boot of the car are
quick release and spare wheels and tyres are supplied. Whilst it is
a while since she has seen a circuit. this XJS we are advised. is
exceptionally quick and would be competitive in its class. Starting
on the button and sounding beautiful this XJS is definitely not for
the faint hearted!
