This is Edith. my lovely 1972 tin top Bay Window camper who's sadly in need of a new home.

I've owned her for about 9 years and have spent well over £7k getting her to her current condition but I can no longer afford to keep putting the money in or continue to run her on a daily basis & would rather let her go to a good new home than see her deteriorate. She's sailed through most of her MOTs in the time I've owned her but did require a couple of little bits of welding last time – to be expected in a 40-odd year old UK van! She has been extremely reliable over the years but over the last few I've only managed to do about 1000 miles in her & that seems like a waste.

Edith's spec includes:

* stock 1600cc air-cooled engine - it's old but is currently running better than it's ever done in the time I've owned her. The carburettor. ignition coil. plugs & points. battery & the 009 distributor have all been replaced / upgraded in the last 2 years.

* FuelCat means it runs on unleaded petrol.

* bespoke interior - the previous owner had ripped out the original fittings and made a bit of a hash of things so I've put in a 3/4 Rock & Roll bed. large cupboard unit suitable for fridge / electric coolbox (included in the sale) & cooker (can be supplied but it's not fitted as I prefer cooking outside) etc. laminate effect vinyl flooring. curtains. half leather sports seats up front. buddy seats. small leather steering wheel. faux suede panelling etc. The only thing that I've never got around to replacing is the headlining. which could be nicer.

* fitted with a 240v electric hookup & also comes with a large leisure battery.

* Pioneer CD player & 4 speakers

* Replica 5 spoke BRM alloys

* Lowered suspension (helps on bends!)

* Stainless steel single pack exhaust.

* Retro Roof rack

* 4 berth drive-away awning

* sun canopy

* set of thermo mats for the windows

* sought after ‘VW' reg plate (apparently worth around £800)

* various other bits & pieces that I'll throw in inc manuals / original steering wheel etc.

*she's tax exempt (tax expires 30/11/2013) & the MOT is good until Oct 2013.

Hopefully the pics backup my belief that Edith is a lovely van but please get in touch if you would like to come & see her. have any questions or would like more pics - call / text me on 07968 943337 (no time-wasters please).

She may need a bit more welding for the next MOT & like any old vehicle. she will need regular servicing & TLC. She was partially resprayed about 7 years ago as part of a bigger restoration job and there are now a few cracks appearing in the paint and the odd bit of rust starting to come through (mostly on the passenger door - see pic) so longer term this might need attention. Thanks to some inconsiderate idiot there's also a slight scrape / scuff along the rear panel on the passenger-side. presumably from a car bumper (see pic).

I'm based in Derbyshire but as I've got nowhere to keep her under cover locally. she's spent most of the last 6 years garaged at my parent's in Scotland and has only been used for short periods in the summer.

In view of the fact that she isn't a project van but equally isn't a spotless show van. I've set the reserve at a (hopefully) modest level - thanks for looking & happy bidding.

Payment & collection to be arranged within 48hrs of the auction ending.

Life's definitely more fun with a camper!
