1964 FIAT 309 EX BLOOD DONATION VEHICLE,BUS BASED,EXCELLENT ORIGINAL CONDITIONS for sale
Current customer rating:
Under the hammer a real unique and original vehicle. in
stunning aestetic and functional conditions .
running and driving faultlessly . a
1964 Fiat 309/1
blood donation vehicle
coachbuilt by the famous CAM (Carrozzeria Autodromo Modena)
firm in Modena on a bus chassis. It was
ordered new by AVIS
(the most important Italian association for blood donation)
in Turin and was used by them until 2013 . then they disposed of it as new health rules required more modern vehicles and I bought it with two other smaller buses in April 2014 (I am an AVIS volunteer and I am sitting in the board of my local AVIS association) AVIS in Turin offered this "beautiful beast" first to the local National Automobile Museum but its director refused it saying it was too big and could not be parked inside. Then I stepped in and saved the
legendary "Provinciale Grande". /
used in central Turin and around its province for exactly half a century
(attached also a photo taken outside Turin University School of Law during a donation day). My idea was about transforming it lightly inside
to obtain a spacious and comfortable classic motorhome/race support vehicle to be used at historical
races
but lack of time (and now lack of closed space) forces me to sell this beauty without any modification. as when it left the CAM factory nearly 53 years ago.
During AVIS tenure it was always garaged. used carefully by expert senior drivers and fastidiuosly mantained by the Fiat-Iveco official service network.
It has the longer final ratio available.
it is delightful to drive and goes like a bullet
(about 100 km/h - 65 mph maximum speed). with 153 bhp from its 9. 2 liter six cylinders in-line Fiat type 220 H diesel engine (normally aspirated. directly injected. mounted amidship and horizontally on this rigid and sturdy ladder chassis) transmission features a five speed gearbox (no synchromesh) with a very low first gear (normally you start the vehicle in second). the steering is power assisted and brake are pneumo-hydraulic (and very effective!). CAM realised its body using steel panelling and put inside four adjustable beds. cabinets. desks and covering every surface with then "state of the art" formica the electrical system is 24 V but some lights and power sockets inside can be connected to an outside 220 V power supply there is also a fridge and a Webasto heating system (it uses diesel fuel) the front compartment for the driver and two other passengers has an original transparent hatch (or sunroof) built by Weathershield Ltd - England on it. At the rear there is a door and retractable steps that give access to the inside space. The vehicle is 9. 0 m long and 2. 0 m wide. weights about 11 ton. rear wheels are twin on each side.
Logbook and plates and also the owner's manual are present and original
and a new Mo T will be issued before the sale.
it is highly
efficient from every point of view and structurally sound in every corner of chassis and body. A real eyecatcher at events like the Goodwood Revival. Le Mans Classic or
Monza's Coppa Intereuropa.
It currently resides in Trana. 30 km from Turin. can be collected locally and driven everywhere to its next home without being worried by reliability issues.
