1951 Citroen Traction Avant 11B - All original including paint! for sale
Current customer rating:
1951 Citroen Traction Avant 11 BL.
This is a rare and completely original survivor right down to the original black lacquer paint.
The Traction Avant was light years ahead of it's time - front wheel drive. rack and pinion steering. overhead cam and unibody construction! This was the famed car of the French resistance during WWII! I bought this car from a woman in her mid 60 s who bought it in France and had it shipped to the US when she moved back to the US.
This car is as straight and original as you will ever find.
I drove this car the 8 miles to work during the spring and summer when I lived in St Louis and loved every minute.
With the tilt out front window and pop up vent - the precursor of air conditioning.
Everything except the clock works on this car - windows. wipers. lights all in working order.
The prior owner had the interior reupholstered in the 1980 s with Citroen fabric
What have I done with it since I bought it 10 years ago - I had the local porsche repair facility (Reid Vann in ST. Louis) do the following in 2006:head gasketvalve stem sealsmanifold gasketsvalve cover gasketrocker stand Gasketswater pump gasketsreplace valve guidesreplace valve seatsgrind valves and valve seatsresurface head gasket surfaceset points and timingset carb and fuel mixturefuel pump In 2011 I had a complete brake job including new bearings and the drums turned.
The only modification I made was to add a primer bulb between the fuel pump and the carburetor to help with starting - she starts every time! The manual fuel pump is just not strong enough to pull from the gas tank.
I have the original owners guide and copies of all the shop manuals (over 200 pages of detailed maintenance and service instructions.
So why am I selling? I've moved to Florida and between the heat and the INSANELY STUPID drivers here. I just don't drive her enough - she needs to be driven.
Breaks my heart but I only get her out of the garage one a month and I'm terribly afraid some dope will hit me.
