1969 Fiat 124 Sport AC for sale
Current customer rating: (701 votes ) based onAfter 22 years of ownership. I'm selling my 1969 Fiat 124 Sport AC. I purchased this northern Victorian car from its second owner. He had pulled it entirely apart upon purchase. but didn't commence the restoration. The car was almost completely rust free then & remains rust free now. Following its bare metal respray. I used German cavity wax (Prent) in every hollow section of the car and have re-done most cavities on a couple of occasions since. The car has always been garaged.
I completed its restoration in 1995 with everything mechanical except the diff being rebuilt. The gearbox was never perfect and a few years ago I put another one in it. This one is good. but not as slick as I have experienced. The motor is a fully rebuilt 1756cc unit from a CC 124 Sport and enjoys twin 40mm IDF Webers from the BC model. It starts easily. runs beautifully and pulls very strongly.
I've used the car regularly enough through most of the time I've owned it. For short periods here and there it filled the role of daily driver. something that is quite feasible in these very drivable classic cars. The five speed gearbox. 4 wheel disc brakes. coil springs and light controls makes them not only great fun on open roads. but comfortable cars to drive in traffic.
This car looks absolutely stunning in Marine Blue and with its original fitment Cromodora "Fergat" magnesium wheels. I regularly have people come up to talk about it or photograph it on the street. The paint. whilst still acceptable. is showing the signs of its age. There are small chips & scratches in various locations and a few minor dings. If you want to produce a show level car then you'd have a great basis to start. but if you just want a car to enjoy & drive. you wont need to do much if anything. After a period off the road (young kids) I got it re-registered about 18 months ago - it went through the roadworthy process with just a couple of minor things to be attended to. Little. if anything. has changed.
A few other items of note. in no particular order:
- The instrument panel is from a 124 BC. The original will go with the car.
- The seat bases are splitting at the seams. I put some basic. homemade covers on them for roadworthy purposes. New ones are readily available and easily fitted.
- I have a good lot of spares - both old parts plus new items such as brake pads. timing belt. water pump. driveshaft cusion. gearbox mount & others - all go with the car
- The rear bumber has a dent at the RH corner - see pictures. Chrome & stainless trim is as per paint. sound but not perfect.
- Spare is also Cromodora Fergat. A centre piece from one hubcap is missing - this won't be hard to source on e-bay.
- Headlights are original Carellos. Airhorns (original). heater. fan. blinkers. interior lights all work.
- Radiator is re-cored and a modern cooling fan is installed.
- The diff has a bit of a whine. but has for years.
I'm selling to make room (and finances) for a few motorbike projects - Italian. of course.
If you have any questions. please email. I'll check regularly and respond quickly.
Thanks & good luck.
Kelvin
