1971 BMW 2002

Roundie. sunroof. all stock restoration (not fully restored). well maintained and very reliable California car.

Second owner. well-documented / low mileage example.

This 1971 2002 is my favorite car to drive to work.   I am the second owner with all receipts and documentation as mentioned.   It is located in Aliso Viejo. CA - about 60 miles south of Los Angeles. covered in my garage.   It's a local celebrity and always gets remarks and smiles.   Excellent daily driver that has been updated and partially restored over past several years.   Everything works well.   Runs and drives excellent.   Handles exceptional.   No issues in heavy LA traffic or long commutes - most mechanical/suspension has been updated.   I put thousands of dollars into restoring and planned on keeping for my sons.   A very good and unexpected real estate opportunity forces me to sell.   Auction will run full seven days and not end early to respect all bidders.   My reserve is what a neighbor offered me and not too much over $10k.    

History: 
Originally purchased at CA BMW dealership in 1971. by original owner in CA where car lived 38 years and was garage kept.   All receipts and documentation included from since day car was purchased new.
All documentation with original BMW sales invoice. BMW new owner welcome letter from Germany sent to orig. owner. orig. registration. all maintenance records since new in 1971. original manual. service book. etc.   Have original BMW folding keys and solid duplicates. Since I've owned car. all maintenance done by specialty BMW 2002 shop in So. CA.   I have kept it original and have many original parts in a box and all receipts. over $8k invested.

VIN: 1679398.   Matching numbers car.

Mileage: 116. 75 well maintained miles.

Engine: Many new BMW original parts over the years. and recently.   Tuned by BMW 2002 shop a few months ago with new plugs. timing. filters. etc.   Original single barrel carburetor and manual choke were rebuilt and work excellent.   Has new stock exhaust made by ANSA.   Very fast. smooth. purrs at idle.   Starts perfectly every time and fun to drive.  

Transmission: Original 4 speed. very smooth. no grinding.  

Body/Paint:  Original paint was 40 yrs. old and tired so car was re-sprayed original Chamonix color (off-white) two years ago.   Paint job was ok. looks nice and shiny but not show quality.   This car deserved a show paint but got a ‘basic' paint.   All original steel panels with no rust in rockers. fenders. underneath. shock towers. etc.  Had very minor surface rust around sunroof and a few places prior to sand/paint.   Original hood top had damage from garage accident so was replaced with a used hood prior to repaint.

Trim: Original bumpers and bumperettes re-chromed in 2010.   Alum trim is mostly orig. . with a few newer pieces.  

Sunroof: Works great. rebuilt by 2002 shop in 2011.  

Interior: Original seats have all been re-padded and re-upholstered with OEM black vinyl. look great and no tears.   Seats sit up firm and very comfortable like new.   Brackets at base of seat work fine but chrome has deteriorated in places and could be redone to look better.   New black OEM carpeting throughout.   Headliner is original and has old stains. could be replaced.   Door panels are original with no speaker holes.   Dashboard has cracks. and the tired instrument panel cover was painted silver.   Original blaupunkt radio works but it is not hooked up.   The center console speaker was removed but can easily be replaced.   No speakers in car.

Gauges/levers: All work. fan and heat work well. cool air vents good. No AC.  

Rubber:  All door and window rubber has been replaced. fairly new.   Doors shut tight and cabin is air tight.   Hood and trunk rubber seals are original and haven't been replaced.  

Tires and new Bilstein shocks recently installed.   Original shocks were 40 yrs old.   Car handles like a race car.  

Wheels: Repainted original steel wheels. fairly nice orig. hubcaps with new logo centers. with normal wear and tear.  

Suspension: New tie- rods. arms. bushings. and Bilstein shocks.   New center bearing and all recpts.   Handles excellent and feels tight.

This auction is a legally binding contract into which you enter when you click "confirm" on your bid.    As stated above I am using the funds to make a time sensitive real estate transaction and cannot afford any time loss due to a non-serious buyer.   Please see. inspect. or have inspection performed before purchase.   Please pickup or ship within 7 days after purchase.   Car is sold as-is. where-is with no warranties express or implied – it is over 40 years old.   I am happy to help with shipping however the cost and details are buyers responsibility.

Price:  Auction starts at $10k however reserve is priced at where my top offer currently stands and is not too much over $10k.    I have seen 2002's like mine sell between $10k and $20k depending on condition.   This 2002 is in good to very good condition however is not show (yet).
