TC Convertible

Ask anyone who owns a convertible and they'll tell you there's nothing better to drive than a ragtop! By the late 1980's Chrysler wanted to build a luxury convertible to compete with the best that the Europeans were offering in the U. S. market. Lee Iacocca was eager to transform the blue-collar image his company had acquired after introducing the compact “K” Car line and he knew by turning to his old friend Alejandoro DeTomaso. who then headed Maserati. that they might again joint-venture on a world-class luxury vehicle. When Iacocca headed Ford fifteen years earlier they'd built the Ford V8 powered DeTomaso Pantera supercar. With total production over the three model years limited to exactly 7. 00 cars. the TC became an almost instant collectible.
If you're in the market for a well-kept. low-mileage. vintage sport coupe please give this great driver your kind attention. You're also welcome to contact me with questions or to discuss a sale before the end of the Ebay listing. My name is Mark Thompson and I can be reached at 206/914-1173
CONDITION:
The photos really tell our TC's story. Each of the three owners over the past 27 years has recognized its significance and kept the car out of the weather and well maintained. We have the original window sticker (priced at $33. 50) from Joe Gentile Chrysler-Plymouth. We also have all major maintenance receipts going back over that entire period. Most significant outlines replacement of the engine with a new factory long block at 071. 80 miles (the present odometer reading is 074. 68). Shortly thereafter the engine computer was replaced at 073. 80 and the catalytic converter at 073. 79 miles. This past March the battery and brakes were done and in June all four tires and the muffler were replaced. I'll also be sure to include the TC AMERICA Club newsletters covering virtually every issue from the date of incorporation thru the late nineties.
Having sold more than one hundred vehicles here on Ebay. the first question I'm always asked is about rust. Well. this classic convertible HATES rust and you'll be very hard pressed to find anything here to worry about. Yes. the Puget Sound region gets its share of drizzle. but rarely any snow so our winter roads are never salted. One snowflake and everyone stays home. Besides. this vehicle has not even seen many winter roads in its life! Climb over. under and throughout. I know you'll come up smiling after you've seen the solid. original fenders. floorpans and trunk floor here! Though I'm not an expert. I have found NO evidence of repainting. past accident repair or replacement of body panels.
One turn of the key and the strong 2. 2 liter “Turbo II” four cylinder fires up instantly with just a pump of the gas pedal. even when cold. Select the “D” and the three-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly. just like it should with NO slippage. The strong turbocharger quickly kicks in at the appropriate acceleration moment with no perceived lag. All-in-all. a VERY fun car to drive!
Take another look at the interior pics. You've gotta be impressed by the excellent condition of the leather on all seating surfaces. the dash and even the steering wheel. Settle into these comfy cushions and you'd almost think you're at home in an easy chair. I included one picture with the factory floor mat removed on the driver's side so you can see the excellent original condition of the carpet beneath. It's very obvious from the lack of wear and tear that this car's been well taken care of. Both door panels are original and in above-average condition. The stock Mopar AM-FM radio works. but sound output is intermittant.
As my un-retouched photos show. the overall exterior is far above average. I'm 99. 9 percent sure this is original paint as there is no overspray anywhere on the chrome moldings or any rubber pieces. No evidence of paint blend or orange-peeled in the jams either. There are a few thin spots from age. The solid aluminum factory Maserati wheels pictured are straight and true. Each is wrapped with new 205/60R15 all-season radials. This convertible really is a blast to drive and absolutely turns heads everywhere you go! I always report any negatives encountered as well as strong points. Here are a few minor things I've come across: The A/C is still set-up for R12 refrigerant and should be converted to R134a in order to blow cold. The fan switch button is missing but I've used a metal nail file to easily operate the fan. As pictured. the right rear corner window doesn't move up or down from the power switch. Both the removable hard top and the folded down soft top are excellent as shown. The soft top has no rips. tears or holes however the upper mounts on the rear glass need a new nut and bolt on either side to hold the glass up. That's about it. Please don't be upset if I miss another minor flaw or a small repair is needed. NO used car is ever perfect. Having said that. I have every confidence the TC can be driven long distance immediately and that it's ready to do so (the oil & filter have been freshly changed as well).
Please feel free to contact me with any questions. You're welcome and encouraged to stop by to inspect. drive and make an offer.
