Austin A125 Sheerline Limousine (DM1) Wedding Car For Sale not Princess for sale
Current customer rating: (458 votes ) based onHi and welcome to the auction for my 1951 Austin A125 Sheerline Limousine - this is the DM1 Model.
The car was originally registered on 22nd March 1951 to Joseph A Hey & Son Funeral Directors in Bradford. Since that time it has had 6 previous owners. and whilst I am its seventh I am good friends with its 5th and 6th owners. I am therefore fully aware of its history since 1998 when it came to Milton Keynes as a wedding car where it as remained since.
Somewhere along its journey the original 4 litre Austin Engine and Column change gearbox has been replaced with a 6 cylinder Triumph 2000TC with Auto Gearbox. This engine swap actually works very well. the Triumph engine is very smooth. the auto box makes for effortless driving and despite being half the capacity of the original engine is only about 20hp down. The car. whilst winning no traffic light grand prixs will sit at 60mph quite happily which is more than adequate.
The car is finished in Olde English white with a Brown leather and deep red interior. The seats. including the two occasional seats. nbsp;were retrimmed in leather about 2 years ago and are in great condition.
I have owned the car since 2012 and in that time replaced most of the brake cylinders - including the master cylinder. and had a custom made stainless steel exhaust. In the last four years the car has performed perfectly never letting me down.
The car is Tax Exempt and MOT Exempt although it did have a valid MOT until March of this year.
Now to the details - this is a 65 year old wedding car that has been worked to earn its money. In honesty it hasn't been looked after as well as it could have been over the years and is now quite tired and in need of some TLC - although visually it attracts lots of admiring looks and comments.
The main mechanical parts are all ok. the gearbox was replaced around 6 years ago with a reconditioned unit and all changes gear fine with no slipping. It does however 'clonk' sometimes when slowing down and changing back into first. Most of the braking system was replaced four years ago. The handbrake isn't that great though as there in play in most of the linkage - when parking we just put the gearbox into park.
The main chassis is ok. For people who know these cars the centre cross member is missing to accommodate the Triumph Engine and gearbox.
The bodywork at a quick glance looks fine and always attracts admiring glances at weddings and shows. In reality it contains lots of filler and really should be gone through from front to back with a grinder. welder and sheet of steel. The paintwork is also a number of shades of Olde English White following many years of rust chasing.
I would encourage viewing and am happy to answer any questions.
In summary this is a very rare car that with a little work and TLC could continue its work providing the wedding transport it has done for most of its life
It is also a very good place to start if you wanted. and could source the relevant parts. to make it back into an extremely rare piece of British Motoring History that would be worth far in excess of £20k and would only go up in value.
The number plate is transferable and valued at £2500.
Thank you for looking. nbsp;I look forward to any questions. The car is advertised elsewhere and could be removed.
£250 to be made by Paypal within 12 hours of the auction completion. Balance of funds to be cleared prior to collection.
Any bids from bidder with a feedback of less than 12 will be cancelled unless you message me first. Sorry to be harsh to all the genuine bidders. but been messed about too much before.
Happy Bidding.
