HISTORY

The Hudson Motor Car Company was known for producing durable. well-engineered but conservatively styled automobiles. That reputation was forever changed on December 7th. 1947 when Hudson introduced their new 1948 models in nationwide showings. Banners proclaimed “This Time It's Hudson”. The cars won instant acclaim from the public. Production had actually begun on October 12th. The tremendous factory conversion effort took only 23 days. Hudson spent $16. 00. 00 for development and new production equipment. The new car was revolutionary in that virtually no parts interchanged with the 1947 models. except the eight cylinder engine. which was essentially the same. The car had the lowest center of gravity and the lowest roofline of any American car without sacrificing headroom. due to the floor pans being attached to the bottom of the frame members instead of the top as all previous American cars had been. The new body design was termed “Monobilt” because the body structure was welded all steel construction.

 CONDITION

Being a Hudson restorer. I took this Hudson on trade and was happy with the overall condition of the Hollywood.   The car is rock solid from the front to the back still has the original front floor pans in good condition. The outer frame is solid as well.   The last owner had the single range transmission rebuilt and it shifts smoothly. He also went through the motor and turned the crank. installed a new timing chain. gaskets set and re-ringed the engine.   Overall the motor runs well and sounds good. I have gone through and adjusted the valves and rebuilt the carburetor to specs. The engine compartment is extremely clean and the motor is detailed nicely. The car was originally this light cream color.   It has been repainted in base/clear and I would consider the paint and trim as a driver condition quality. I did repaint the top to a rootbeer color which compliments the interior and is in very nice condition. The seats and doors cards were also redone around 7 years ago and sports the original type material seen in the 51 Hudson with the fabric gotten from SMS fabrics and is in great shape. The carpet and headliner have also been replace and show well.   The trunk is absolutely solid as a rock.   Some additional information that will need to be address on this car includes the following: clock and radio are inoperable. it is missing the trunk lock (I have another lock but a key is needed to be made from a locksmith). the heater core is unhooked. Will require some weather-stripping on doors and ¼ windows. Also front windows have some round bullets but I will include two used perfect windshields.   A wiring harness would be the next item that this car could use down the road. but all the lights and gauges function as well as the turn signals.   I have a wiring harness on order from Rhode Island wiring and could make a deal to have it installed by me thru my restoration company 21st Century Hudson for a bargain of a price. Overall. the car is a nice driver that can drive anywhere. I would rate this Hollywood at a low #2 car by the Hudson Club (HET) Handbook. As a bonus. if you BUY It Now. I will throw in a nice set of upper Rocker moldings as well as reproduction firewall pad. reproduction lower stainless for the doors. fenders and ¼ panels and a new center Hudson red medallion (total worth $925 on the market).
