Mercedes 450 SL Sports convertible Automatic

Welcome to our auction for a Mercedes 450SL Sports finished in Artic White with anthracite grey M-tex and cloth interior.

We are David and Cameron from Highview Cars. a long established (20 years) used car trading company based in Enfield north London. We have sold hundreds of cars successfully on ebay from 2002 onwards. we have a 100% rating for all of our cars that we've ever sold and have never received a negative feedback. We do not sell many cars on ebay any more as it was becoming increasingly difficult to keep standards and service as high as we did and make any money. particularly when the recession bit. However when we have an interesting car come our way that deserves some extra attention from us. we use ebay.

This is a Mercedes 450 SL Sports Automatic convertible it was first registered on the 01/01/1980 and is a 'V' registration. It is showing 80000 miles which is believed to be genuine which is the reason why it went through a full bodywork restoration last year.

The paintwork is excellent. there is no rust or damage anywhere. it has a deep shine and the chrome work and bumpers are all in excellent condition. The wheels are 5 spoke AMG style alloys. these aren't original to the car but we felt they look quite fitting. however the original alloys would be quite easy to source as they were fitted across many different models of this era.

The hood is in excellent condition. with no rips or tears. it operates very well. fitting in snugly into its cavity when the hood is down. The mechanisms and latches all work perfectly and are in excellent condition. The hood fits very securely when its up. There is no hardtop with this car.  

The interior is all original and is in excellent condition. there is no wear to the carpets or the upholstery. the original teak fascia is also in excellent condition. There is no evidence of any water ingress or leaks and everything works.

The engine starts up first time and has a very appealing low level V8 blurble. Upon driving this car. its clear that its still got a lot of power. 220 bhp is available but more importantly maximum torque is delivered at just 3000 revs. This engine was a 'lazy' V8 which means a very unhurried smooth delivery of power. This engine doesn't and in fact can't work hard which is one reason why they last for so long. They sound and feel great to drive and the car itself feels more solid than you would ever expect a 33 year old car to feel.

There are quite a few SL's of this age and type for sale. Most of them generally are pretty good as they were built so well and owned by well heeled people. Its surprising when you compare to say the Jaguar E-Type that these classics can be bought in excellent condition for the same price as a family holiday in the Maldives. There's not many cars out there that will deliver this sort of classic topless driving experience for such little money. Its also likely that they will increase in value over the next few years. the worst case scenario being that if this car is looked after it will always be worth this sort of price. which makes it a wise buy for anyone who's always wanted to own one.
