Mercedes 206d Hanomog camper van,Very rare

Description For anyone unfamiliar with Mercedes a 206d. the bodies were built by the German truck manufacturer. Hanomag which was brought out by Mercedes in the late 1960's. It has a few unusual features which set it apart from most other campers from the 1970s: it is a front wheel drive diesel using the bullet proof Mercedes 2. 2 litre engine. It also uses torsion bar suspension giving a soft ride. This van also has rear torsion bar suspension. whereas post 1972 vans have rear left springs. I have owned this brill van for just over 3 years and I brought it from a guy who had owned the van for 9 years. I have finally decided to sell it as I am not finding the time to work on. or have the funds to restore her. It is unlike most other 206d in the UK because it was built in 1971 thus qualifying for historic vehicle status with zero rate road tax. Vehicle description The camper is a short wheel base van and was converted to a camper in Germany during the 1970s. It was imported to Britain in June 2000. Previous owner brought the van in July 2001. He rebuilt the interior (he was a joiner by trade) about 4 years ago to incorporate 2 rear seats with 3 point seatbelts from a Vw Sharran. These seats fold completely flat  so that the bed board sits on top of the seats. The seats easily unclip from the floor and can be removed so that the van can be used for other purposes. There is a removable box  in between the 2 rear seats so that long lenghts of timber 8x4 ply sheets act can be transported. I have used the van for 2 adults and 1 child. The bed at the rear is the full width of the van and can quite easily fit an extra person in. The bed is made up of 4 mattresses the previous owner had a hammock that fitted across the width of the van above the 2 front seats. This was "5" 6" long and big enough for an 11 year old boy. they are easily available. It has eye level storage space at the front and rear. It also has lift up cupboard storage areas under the double bed at the back. It used to have a small cooker and sink unit which has been removed to fit the rear seats. It has a 3 draw kitchen storage unit with worktop on top which folds out to double the size. It has a decent steel CD and radio with custom built speaker boxes incorporated into the overhanging storage area at the front. The camper is fitted with a tow bar. There is also a largish steel and timber rear step/platform to carry a moped or bikes. This doubles up as a cooking platform. ashing up area. seat when camping. Further details A new clutch with new release bearing was fitted July 2008. The starter motor was replaced 4 years ago and a brand new alternator with internal regulator with double the original power was also fitted. New front wheel bearings were fitted in 2005. Both drive shafts have been replaced. and a new steering intermediate steering pinion was fitted 2009. The van was resprayed at the beginning of 2010 by the previous owner. Although not a professional job. it is a good paint job using professional paint. There are a couple of jobs that need doing these include restoring the roof gutters and fitting a new rubber seal to the top of the rear door. Also welding to the arches and side door. She starts first time evreytime and runs like a dream. one of a kind bus. everyone falls in love with.   Viewing is highly recommended. I would prefer a buyer to come and see the camper van if possible. This camper is 40 years old and is not in mint condition so don't expect a concourse vehicle.
