1951 Cooper 500 MKV “The Pulse Jet Car”
Engine:12/51 Jap Gearbox:3 Speed
History: Cooper 500 Mk V/12/51 JAP "The Pulse Jet Car" purchased from its long term owner in New Zealand in 2015 and re-patriated to the UK. Factory produced and sold originally to Derek Annable who raced alongside Stirling Moss. Probably the most famous of the Cooper 500 s. having been fitted with a pulse jet engine in 1955/6 and campaigned and demonstrated all over the world. Discovered abandoned and then carefully restored to its original Cooper MKV form. the car was then raced by its new owner in New Zealand for 30 years. The car and engine have both been rebuilt and refreshed running JAP 500 with rare Alfin aluminium road-race barrel and AMC-Norton gearbox now in "as new" condition and ready to race. There is a large spares package and several volumes of press cuttings and photographs documenting its history (including a signed photograph of Stirling Moss in the car). The car comes complete with the old pulse jet engine and original body panels from its pulse jet days. This car is both an important piece of Cooper 500 history and also a well prepared machine ready for hill climbing or racing today.
