1934 Austin Heavy 12/4 Low Loader London Taxi for sale

The 'Low Loader' as it was generally known in the London cab
trade was the most widespread model of taxi in London during the
1930 s with over 4. 00 being built between 1934 and 1939. Several
makers produced bodies for the Low Loader. the most common being
Jones Brothers of Westbourne Grove and Strachan of Acton. This
particular taxi was built by Jones and is equipped with a side
valve four-cylinder engine and a four speed manual gearbox with
synchromesh on third and fourth gear. a worm drive rear axle and
rod-operated brakes.

This taxi was originally registered on 10 th November
1934 and after many years of service ended up in a museum in
Sweden. The vendor. who is exceedingly knowledgeable when it comes
to London taxis. purchased the cab some years ago and repatriated
it to the UK.
He then set about some restoration work which
included new upholstery. fitting a stainless steel exhaust. br/>recovering the roof and fitting new running boards and. more
recently. a new clutch has been fitted. This taxi has participated
in the Armistice Day Poppy Run for the last couple of years.
Supplied with a V 5 C registration document and some previous Mo Ts. br/>this Austin Heavy is a handsome vehicle with a style and presence
that would grace any collection.
