The Mercedes-Benz W 111 was a chassis code given to its
top-of-the-range of vehicles. including four-door saloons. produced
from 1959 to 1968. and two-door coupés and cabriolets built from
1961 to 1971. The W 111 title was initially attributed to
six-cylinder cars with 2. 2-litre engines. Production of the
four-door saloon began in August 1959 and was premiered at the
Frankfurt Auto Show in Autumn. Initially the series consisted of
three models the 220 b. 220 Sb. and the 220 SEb replacing the popular
'Ponton' saloon respectively. Powering the three cars was an
identical 2195 cc straight-six engine carried over from the previous
generation. It produced 95 bhp and was capable of accelerating the
car to 100 mph. The top range 220 SEb featured Bosch fuel injection
and produced 120 bhp with a top speed of 107 mph in 14 seconds.
This Mercedes-Benz 220 Fintail was originally registered on 4 th
November 1964 and has been owned by the fastidious vendor since
January 2006. Over £16. 00 has been spent on the car under his
stewardship resulting in EBH 210 B presenting in delightful
condition. The chestnut paintwork is virtually unmarked as is the
tan interior the extensive chromework is also in splendid order.
During our inspection. the engine and gearbox performed exceedingly
well and there were no adverse noises or rattles from this fine
piece of German engineering. The car comes supplied with a V 5
registration document and an Mo T test certificate valid until
January 2017 together with a history file. A great opportunity to
purchase a piece of Mercedes-Benz history that is not only very
useable but offers style. grace and comfort.
