1927 Rolls Royce Phantom 1 Windovers tourer.

Supplied new to India & characteristic of the many Maharaja cars that went out there; this rolls Royce Phantom 1 was ordered new by the Viceroys palace for the use of Lord Halifax; the shooting partner of the Prince of Wales who became Edward the 8th. Unsurprisingly the car is fitted with a swivel mounted Steven Grebel Tiger hunting lamp.

This is a very low mileage car believed to have covered just 25K miles from new. The car is taut. rattle free & has a very tight feel to it overall. The engine is strong. silent & powerful exhibiting excellent oil pressure & running cool.

Coachwork is that of an open tourer by Windovers. In good Indian style the bonnet & upper surfaces are of polished aluminium. A detachable Auster screen is provided to shield the rear passengers when at speed. This Phantom is the epitome of a vintage open tourer being large & magnificent. The hood is a high quality dark blue mohair item in keeping with the dark blue paint. A full set of side screens comes with the car.

To the interior is pale blue leather throughout with darker blue carpets. The dash board is of mother of pearl & all instruments special ordered in white. The steering wheel has a special order horn ring. an item one rarely sees on these phantoms. This is a car that was clearly built to impress & is both large & somewhat ostentatious. It is one of three special order Rolls Royce Phantom one's built by Windovers all of which exist today.

A pistol tray is located under the dash board. Lighting is all top quality Steven Grebel equipment. All dash board instrumentation is nickel plated. Under the bonnet the engine is nicely detailed & pleasingly retains its original under trays. A large luggage trunk is fitted to the rear. Polished aluminium wheel discs are fitted to all four wheels & also to the twin side mounted spares.

This is an historic car well suited to being in a collection due to its unusual specification & wonderful provenance.
