1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL EXCELLENT Both Tops Very Original MUST SEE! for sale
Current customer rating:
Presented here is an excellent unrestored 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL.
The body is straight and rust-free. having spent its entire life in the Seattle area.
All trim pieces are present and in excellent condition.
The car has its original firewall pad. correct chromed locking gas cap. no rust anywhere (including the trunk floor and floor pans). both tops. white exterior. black mb tex interior. and 4 spd auto transmission. The heater levers light up. the cigar lighter works. and even the original Becker radio works.
As the car has aged. I have maintained it in excellent driving condition and sought out the best people in the business to help me: The wood trim was re-veneered by Drew Tibcken at Heritage Woodworks and looks factory-new and absolutely correct.
Fuel injection pump was rebuilt and made to look gorgeous by Hans at H&R Fuel Injection.
Many systems have been rebuilt in the last 12 years. including brakes. fuel pump. tachometer. radiator and heater core. engine (top-end rebuild). transmission. steering.
Seats have been re-padded and re-covered with correct mb tex.
This car rides on brand-new Kumho blackwall tires purchased in April (not the whitewalls pictured). Spare tire cover looks great. as does the complete original tool kit in its cloth roll.
The original jack. wheel chock. and manuals round out the picture.
I have a thick folder of service records going back to the 1980's.
A collection of 280 sl shop manuals. books and articles comes with the car. as does a fitted car cover and spare parts.
Condition issues:
The door sill cover plates are dented.
There is a minor oil leak at the fuel injection pump seal. Period-correct brand-new cocomats rest on top of the new floor mats.
The car is highly original except for a mid-1980's repaint. I assume this is when it lost its headlight notches.
The heater lever that lifts & lowers the outside air vent has become disconnected.
The tops of the headlight doors are cracked.
There is a quarter-sized ding in the left-front bumper.
There is a chip inside the map light lens.
Rear shelf has modern speakers in it. and a hidden modern MP 3 stereo lurks in the glove box. There are plenty of paint imperfections (see photos).
The clock does not work.
