Current customer rating:
1983 Mercedes 280 SE
This is a very unique car. having been imported through the Mercedes Diplomatic and Tourist Sales division. It has an unusually low specification. with none of the electrical niceties the S-Class is associated with. So in summary it has:
4 manual windows 14" steel wheels The emptiest MB build sheet known to man
And that's about it! But what it does have is a very smooth 2. 8 M 110 engine. with the 4 speed automatic gearbox. which is equally smooth in its operation.
History
The car has had only 3 owners. the first being the gentleman who bought the car new in Belgium. He kept the car until 2012 and for the majority of the time. it bore the registration 'ENJ 4'. I'm afraid that's long gone though! The service book is stamped up until June 1993. when it had covered 84 k miles. Service records are more sporadic after this point. but what is interesting is the MOT records (back to 1986 and
all kept in that bulging folder on the passenger seat).
May 2001- 122290 miles
April 2002- 122293 miles
April 2003- 122300 miles
April 2004- 122302 miles
April 2005- 122304 miles
April 2006- 122306 miles
April 2007- 122310 miles
So. a 6 year period during which the car covered 20 miles. but was road ready the whole time.
Condition
The car is in a very. very presentable condition. The underside is remarkably sound (I only wish my W 123 was like this).
Bodily. the only areas of nastiness is are pictured. these being the offside rear arch. which shows evidence of previous repair and the other being a touch up on the nearside front door. There are a couple of very small dings associated with long term storage. but I cannot understate how smart the car looks in the metal.
The interior is tidy. however some of the vinyl trim around door pillars has deteriorated somewhat.
Recommissioning
Given the length of time that the car sat. without doing any meaningful motoring. some recommissioning was required. This included: Refurbished Bosch warm up regulator New fuel pump Sealed fuel tank 4 new tyres 4 new brake calipers Assorted suspension and steering components
The car has a full year's MOT and is ready to enjoy. Any viewing or questions are encouraged.
