The W 114 coupé heralded a completely new range of cars for
Mercedes-Benz. Unlike everything else on offer. this car did not
take any previous elements from the standard 180 from the 1950's. A
new designer. Paul Bracq. was introduced. who penned a pure and
uncluttered motorcar. The roof-line came down and the seats were
lowered to maintain headroom. The pillars were removed and all four
windows wound down completely out of sight. The engine was a
2. 5-Litre. fuel injected unit with Bosch Jetronic injection. br/>delivering 148 bhp and propelling this model up to a perfectly
respectable 115 mph.
Offered in factory two-tone cream with black roof and unmarked. br/>deep brown leather. this fantastic example of a very pretty 250 CE
initially strikes you as a restored example. However. upon closer
inspection. what we see is. remarkably. a very original coupé. With
just one owner since the factory. this motorcar has been
meticulously kept and cared for. hence the condition we find her in
today. Having been garaged between trips its entire life. the
bodywork is corrosion free and presents almost as new with very few
areas that give away its 45 years of age.
Offered with the original bill of sale. Mercedes-Benz manuals
and handbooks. service book with evidence of Mercedes Benz care
(until a specialist took over later in life) and even two original
keys this is a clear illustration of what can be considered one of
the best examples we have seen - and given the prices achieved for
the related Pagoda specification roadsters this could be a very
shrewd investment - just open up the sunroof and enjoy the open
road.
