UNIQUE 1960 BEDFORD CA VANHISTORIC WITH PROVENANCE
Built to order from chassis/ cowl assembly on a 'Z' chassis and originally coach built by Keith & Boyle (Lon) LTD. Insulated for carrying blocks of ice and ice cream supplies to stalls and vans from Loreto Guiseppe Scala's ice cream factory in Dulwich. As far as we know this is the only ice van of its kind.
Until last year this van served as a film vehicle (amongst others. starred in Heartbeat and soon to be released Rush - hence the racing graphics - as well as the Amy Mac Donald music video 'Love Love' please see link):

The van was originally lined with white mill board and polystyrene. Recently refurbished with a new timber frame. insulated with polystyrene and lined with ply. The rear lights were originally sourced from a Phase 2 Standard Vanguard.
The number plate on the van is its original number that was sold. The current registration is WAS 325 and is non transferrable.
Tax exempt. Last MOT 3 yrs ago for Heartbeat. Mileage 61. 00. V 5 included. New clutch. Gearbox fine. Brakes fine. Handbrake needs adjusting. Engine runs but needs points or accelerator diaphragm in the carb looking at as is slightly rough. Chassis has surface rust but is structurally good. Also the tracking on drivers side is out. The body is skinned with sheet aluminium alloy. hence no rust. (produced by a company in Peckham) attached to a new timber frame and lined with ply. Insulated with 50 mm polystyrene board and breathable roof lining. Standing height in back is 5 ft 11".
Roof panel leaks slightly. (Has been drilled through top and siliconed. I'm guessing in a previous attempt to redo the internal timber frame. ) We have patched it up with flash banding and painted it in but it requires a new sheet of aluminium for the roof which could be glued down and riveted in the side. A new sheet can be easily sourced and would cost around £200. We did not get to this as the new owner might want to convert.
The rear door is not water proof and needs fitting properly. We have used cupboard catches as a temporary solution. We have also repainted the whole van with green oil based paint. this started off as touching up but ended up as the whole van as it was a better job. To do a top finish the van needs respraying but it looks smart as is. We have some paint left for the new owner (could be used to paint new roof sheet). We have also painted the chrome features in cream as the chrome was degraded beyond rebuffing. We have also painted the inside of the cab and refitted the seat and had the seat cover professionally reupholstered. The seat is original however.
The internal rubber seals around the windows on the doors needs replacing as does the glass in both wing mirrors and the right hand dial. The electrics are pretty good but a few of the bulbs need replacing hence what you get in the way lights and indicators is a bit random. The drivers door fits and shuts but has had to be modified slightly.
The majority of the work we have done has been restoring the timber frame which was in a bad way when we bought the van. It is now structurally sound and well insulated and lined.
