Vehicle Description Stunning and totally original . this 1968 Sports Grain Newport has only covered 30 k miles since new and has always been owned by two enthusiastic owners who understood its unique nature . fully documented with history showing the car was sold April 7 th 1971 to Mr Burchill of Pt Huron Michigan with only 20704 miles (included is the original advertisement for the car from April 5 th 1971) . Mr Burchill maintained the car fastidiously and this shows in the condition the car is presented in today (he owned the car until Sept 2014 . 43 Years!) . 100% original throughout (with exception of fluids battery an tires) . hard to believe this car has not been repainted but it is totally original and immaculate and the interior also shows as close to new as a 46 year old car can . the woodgrain panels and molded trim are virtually unmarked in fact I could not find any chips or issues at all . the car rides and drives exceptionally with no issues or problems . no rust in the body whatsoever . complete with much of the original paperwork and includes the original "Certi-Card" . this Hardtop Coupe Newport represents an amazing time for the US automotive industry and this car should appeal to a serious collector or even a museum . stunning in its totally original presentation . serious interested parties are encouraged to call discuss purchase options . 1

The spring of 1968 brought the interesting $126 "Sports Grain" option for Chrysler Newport hardtops and convertibles. This was a unique form of wagon-type simulated-wood side paneling. It was dropped after 1969. Uncommon at the time and very rare now with only 965 produced. these special editions represent a special time of fashion and car design in America. This car has the 383 cubic inch V-8 engine. automatic. power steering. power brakes. air conditioning. radio. new correct whitewall tires and more. It is finished in Antique Ivory with a gold interior upholstery. The overall condition of this Chrysler is likely unmatched by any other known example and it is stated to be a very low mile version. Production of the 1968 Sportsgrain Newports amounted to 965 hardtops and 175 convertibles. The standard 383 cu in (6. 3 L) two-barrel V 8 received a 20 hp (15 k W 20 PS) increase to 290 hp (216 k W 294 PS). while the four-barrel 383 cu in (6. 3 L) rating went from 325 hp (242 k W 330 PS) to 330 hp (246 k W 335 PS).
