Mercedes SLS for sale
Current customer rating: (357 votes ) based onI am offering my personal collector car for sale. I am not a car dealer and not a professional photographer. I am using EBay to reach the largest number of interested parties. I hope that prospective buyers will be able to see the car for themselves or have it inspected as they deem necessary. If the photos I have included are not sufficient. tell me what you want to see and I will do my best to get them for you. Before I go into detail about the car itself. I think it is important to tell you why I bought it and why I am selling it. I am a retired Air Force veteran and I simply enjoy cars. I watch all the auto auctions on TV and attend local shows when I can. After my children were grown and I started having a little "disposable income". I bought my first collector car. a 1956 Dodge. in 2000. I am not a wealthy person. so one car at a time is all I could handle. I have also had. in order. a 1974 Buick Electra the size of a small battleship. a 1969 Renault R10 the size of a dinghy. and a 1956 pink and white Plymouth Belvedere 2 door hardtop. While I love the older cars. it is an inescapable fact that they are not very safe. They don't handle or stop well and they lack the most basic safety equipment. It's no wonder 50. 00+ people were killed in highway accidents every year "back in the day". I began looking for a newer vintage car that was collectible but had all the modern conveniences. I considered the retro-style T-Bird. but it was too new. That led me to the Allante which had everything I wanted and was approaching the 25 year mark at which desirable cars can become collector cars. The Allante has all the earmarks of a future classic; 1. It is a prestige marque. 2. It was an expensive. low-production vehicle. 3. It is a two-seat roadster with a high performance V8 engine. Once I decided on the Allante. I bought the best one I could find. I have enjoyed it tremendously and people at car shows always want to talk about it. Time has caught up with me. however. Arthritis has robbed me of much of my mobility and an eye surgery gone bad cost me the sight in one eye. I am no longer comfortable driving this sporty car.
If you are still reading. I will assume that you are really interested in owning an Allante. Here is why I think this is a good time to buy one. Allante prices have not begun to appreciate. but the signs are that they will in the coming years. The original owners of these very expensive cars generally kept them in very nice shape. If you can find a low mileage model offered by the original owner. it would probably be a very good investment. although the price would likely be rather high. It has been 27 years since mine was built and over 20 years since the last one came down the assembly line. In that time a lot of Allantes were driven but not maintained. Just browse today's EBay listings and you can find some at bargain basement prices. You can probably find one that will run and drive. but just don't expect it to run well or everything to work as new. Every year. more Allantes have been scrapped because when they reach a certain point of neglect. they are very expensive to repair. I haven't seen any statistics on how many are still on the road. but the number is getting smaller. I am hoping to find someone who wants an Allante ready to enjoy. Here is what I have.
My car is the first year Allante. Most Allantes were red. black. or white. Mine is Metallic Gold. paint code 45U. Less than 2% of Allantes were painted this color. The paint is original. The saddle tan leather upholstery looks great with this exterior color. The interior is original. In fact. pretty much everything except the battery and the fluids is original. The car has a little over 23K miles on it. I bought it from the second owner who never drove it in winter. I have owned it since April 2010. I rinsed it off when it came off the truck and since then it has never been wet. It is garaged and covered. A California Car Duster is all it takes to get it ready for a show. The car was not professionally detailed for the pictures you see here. It was just dusted off and vacuumed. There is no Armor-all or other shiny stuff applied to the car. The engine compartment is really that clean. I used the same rag I dusted the wheels with to whisk away what little dust had found its way in. I'm not going to try to dazzle you with superlatives such as "like new". mint condition. etc. A car is only new once and it won't be mint unless it was encased in plastic from the factory. I'll just say that this is about as good as it gets for a 27 year old car that has not been restored.
If you are in the market for a first-class Allante. I hope you will consider this one. If you are shopping Allantes. you know or will find that there were production changes over the years. You can find lots of opinions on the internet. and I hope you will do your due diligence to make sure you get exactly what you want. The main discussion usually involves the first year '87 model and the last year '93. which gain distinction over the other years simply by being the first and the last. The big attraction for the '93 is that it is the only one that came with the Northstar engine. It's a great engine and I have had several later model Cadillac sedans that had it. One thing you need to be aware of is that '93 was the first year for the Northstar and it had some teething problems like high oil consumption and oil leaks. Repairing an oil leak on a Northstar requires removing the engine from the car. Also. GM "decontented" the '93 Allante to lower the price. It came with standard GM seats rather than the really nice Recaros that are in the earlier models. Also. the later Allantes didn't come with the hardtop. It was a $5. 00 option and if you see how nice they are. you know why. I haven't had the hardtop on mine for quite a while and I didn't get a picture of it. but it is in perfect condition. resting on the special stand that came with the car and covered with a custom Allante cover. If you are looking for the fastest Allante. the '93 would be it. I found the high performance V8 that was standard in the '87 to be more than adequate. It is a beautiful engine. as you can see and it has an interesting exhaust note that you would not recognize as coming from a Cadillac. By the way. EBay for some reason identifies my car as a "base" model. There were no "base" models in 1987. It is loaded. Also included with the car will be an OEM shop manual and all the luxury brochures I have collected.
This is an opportunity to own a ready to drive. ready to show. collector car. I have learned that you don't have to have $50K tied up in a collector car to have fun with it! If you have never purchased a car on EBay. I understand your hesitation. My very first EBay purchase in 2000 was the 1956 Dodge and it was in Victoria. British Columbia. Since then. I have bought all my collector cars and personal vehicles on EBay. The secret to satisfaction is knowing who you are dealing with. If it is a car dealer. you want to see a positive feedback of 98. 6% or higher and a lot of sales. not someone new to EBay. I am more a buyer than a seller. but I have done some selling and you can see that I have 100% positive feedback on over 1000 transactions. I have much experience contracting for the shipping of vehicles and please note that unlike most sellers. I will pay to have the Allante shipped to your door anywhere in the continental U. S. at my expense. Do your own price analysis and I think you will find that my Buy-it-Now price is very reasonable for a car of this quality especially since shipping is included. By the way. depending on the state you live in. you may be able to register this Allante as a collector car very cheaply. If you are not using it as a daily driver. you can also insure it for much less than your personal car.
If you have any questions. send me a message and I will give you my phone number. I am motivated to sell. My name is Chuck.
