In 1979. there was only one car that high school quarterbacks all over the country could drive.   Only one car the guys would jump in and go tearing off into the night.   One car that you could pick up the prettiest cheerleader for a date and a drive up the lookout.   In 1979 that car was THIS Trans Am 10th Anniversary with the super rare 4 speed! 

I am filled with pride to offer this BEAUTIFUL Trans Am in a NO RESERVE auction.   There is no other car that brings bigger smiles. more love for your car. your past and your dreams.   This car was the dream!  And frankly. to drive it even now it still is!  Any time you turn the key to this rumbling beast. you are transported.   You glance down and your shirt is a Van Halen concert tee. your hair as you glance in the mirror is a lot longer. where did that mustache come from too?  Doesn't matter now as you rev this sleeping giant.   It is nice cool night and you have the T-Tops off and are heading to get your blonde date.   She loves this car. its actually how you met her- how could she miss it?  Silver on silver and you can hear it from a block away.   Responsibility?  What is that?  All you have to do tonight is drive off with your date by your side in your Trans Am. smiles blazing. your hand on the 4 speed and her hand on your leg.   It's so real it's tangible. And every time you drive this car it all comes right back.  

Background:
Let me begin with a little background of this Trans Am.   In February 1979 this Silver Edition was born in Van Nuys. California and first. and most importantly. this car was built was a X car!  A 10th Anniversary. Special Silver Edition.
 
Y89: 10th Anniversary!  One of 7. 00 Y89 cars!

W72: This is the KEY to this car!  The W72 performance package gets rid of the weaker Olds 403 and automatic transmission and adds the venerable Pontiac 400c. i. engine paired with the Muncie T-10 4 speed transmission.   Not only did this engine make 35hp more then the 403 out of th box. but paired with the 4 speed was exponentially quicker from a dig!  This was the COMBO!  This is one of the rarest Trans Am made: 1 of 1. 17 cars made.   That means 1% of all 79 Trans Am were optioned with this W72 in 10th Anniversary form.

WS6: Performance Package - larger diameter sway bar. tighter steering box gear ratio. and four wheel disc brakes!

The Condition and Service:

This car has been ENTHUSIASTICALLY and PROFESSIONALLY maintained and preserved! 

Let's start on the engine and drivetrain:

-ENGINE
This engine has been rebuilt and drives wonderful! Only 24. 00 miles appear on the odometer and we believe these are original miles without an odometer rollover.   The Trans Am roars to life instantly even when cool outside.   And I mean ROARS!  The exhaust makes all the right noise: a nice rumble at idle. a mellow growl at cruise and an explosion of lions when you lean into it.   The engine has aftermarket mufflers and headers. The wonderful sound of this car keeps me up at night smiling!  The engine leaves no drips and burns no oil.   Even in 90 degree temps in traffic it does not run hot at all!  Cool as can be!  All the power is there and the engine is beast!  The factory tach works!!!  I'll say again - working factory tach!!!  Turn the key. watch the tach rise and hear this TA come to life!  Working factory speedo!

-TRANSMISSION
The Muncie trans shifts wonderfully and crisp! The throws are so linear and satisfying!

Lets move to the suspension and brakes:

-BRAKES
Front and rear brake shoes that feel wonderful!  No pulling under braking and with the power brakes feel fantastic. The braking system is controlled. powerful and stable.  

-SHOCKS
Great feeling OEM shocks.   They are soft on bumps and tight in corners.   The car handles wonderfully!

-STEERING
The steering is tight and has no excess play and drives fantastic!!!  The power steering is a treat!

Let's continue to the exterior:

-PAINT
The paint is very nice!  It is a 9 out of 10 easily.   Nearly every inch of this car is factory fresh with only minor flaws.    Any flaws are so minor they are near impossible to even see in close up pictures. with the exception of a small touch up above the license plate area.   Some minor flaws in a couple decals (just little corners of the letters with some flaws).   Overall. this car is FANTASTIC.   This car gets compliments at every single traffic light (it becomes comical with the regularity). and usually the first comment. is "Wow!  That is CLEAN!".   This Anniversary really looks the part and could be 1979 all over again.

-TIRES
BRAND NEW BF Goodrich Radial T/A. How great does the white lettering look on this car???

-WHEELS
The Turbo Look wheels are in great shape and near new condition!

-GLASS
Not to let a pebble defeat this car. the windshield has not a chip and the side glass is clear and smooth.   The rear glass has a minor scratch but in fantastic shape.

-BODY
No rot. no bubbles. no loose paint. no issues!!!! 

-SUBFRAME AND UNDERSIDE
The subframe is solid. the floors are solid. the trunk is solid. the car is SOLID!!!!  This was not a trailer queen!  It was driven as a weekend cruiser and will show signs of some chipping of paint or the underbody coating. The expected minor signs of use from a non-trailer queen! 

Onto the cabin:

-SEATS
The premium leather seats are fantastic!!!  There is NO tears. NO seams coming apart.   They are supportive with no sags. The leather is soft and buttery and the foam and the springs are supportive with no signs of fatigue.   They are simply gorgeous.   The back seats are essentially unused! The interior has that great classic car smell too.   You just can't replicate that!!

-DOOR PANELS
The door panels look fantastic! All of the panels are free of dents or defects.  

-POWER LOCKS
Power locks were recently serviced with new actuators and removed. cleaned and oiled door latches.

-HEADLINER
The headliner is in good shape!  No sags. tears or issues!

-CARPET
Great carpet in the car.   Clean and with OEM carpeted floor mats (instead of the rubber mats).  

-WINDOWS
The window guides were just greased and the doors have new weather seals. The seals are tight and the windows have no dead spots.   The windows can be a little slow when putting up with the door closed because of the new stripping.   They will settle in better with some more conditioning.   

-RADIO
What a treat this is: The OEM radio has been totally restored and sounds fantastic.   Not only was it restored. but a little almost hidden MP3 jack was added!  Now keep the OEM look but play your music!  The car also features brand new Kenwood KFC-415C 4x10 front speaker. brand new JBL GTO938 6x9 rear speakers!  Brand new wiring harness for the speakers!

-MIRRORS
Door mirrors and rear view mirror all in great shape!! Drivers side remote mirror works great.

-STEERING WHEEL
The vinyl on the wheel is perfect.   No hand grip spots on the foam underneath. no frays. it feels as it would in your hands from the factory!

-TRUNK
The trunk mat is in perfect shape and the trunk floor is in great shape!!  The OEM inflatable spare is present as well as the OEM jack!  The car even comes with the original air canister!  The inner quarter panels are in fabulous condition!! Remote trunk release works great!

-T-TOPS
The T-Tops are in great shape. the silver factory tinting is very nice and the car comes with the original PERFECT shape T-Top bags.  

-AC/HEAT
Heat gets hot. AC system appears complete. and blower works. though not cold.

-MISCELLANEOUS
The car comes with extras such as the original factory manual!  Also. the owner assembled a beautiful binder filled with pictures and paperwork.   The car even comes with a little clone of itself in a super rare 1:24 scale MPC model!  It is still in its factory plastic and unopened!!!  This alone is a $100 rare model.   Also comes with a Johnny Lightning Matchbox style clone too! 

The Experience
Driving this Trans Am is like no other. It will cruise like your daily driver. calmly and collectively.   And when you see that annoying Chevelle. it wakes up with apocalyptic force!  It has all the power it had from the factory and from even a little gas is torquey and responsive. I hope you can tell by my long ad that this car is an astonishing and beautiful Trans Am.   Treat yourself to this car: beautiful and ready to enjoy. in this NO RESERVE AUCTION!  There has been countless dollars spent on this preservation and BOY does it show!  There is an incredible amount of pride. meticulous and professional care and top-tier service in this car.   The market for these late 2nd Gen Trans Am is on the edge of a explosion on price.   They are very under priced for the car.   Don't let this super rare Trans Am pass you by like so many did with air-cooled Porsche 911 over the past few years. And don't buy from a dealer with the "churn-um-and-burn-um" mantra - they buy from an auction or get a trade and put the car right back for sale. The owner just bought this car. but an unexpected event is forcing an immediate sale. It is the Trans Am you have been waiting for!  It is not some trailer queen. it has been driven and enjoyed all while maintaining it to a high level of care!

Forgot to mention a fun little bit: Craig Jackson. owner of Barrett-Jackson auctions. was asked in a recent interview in the September 2014 issue of Car & Driver magazine "What's next?" Referring to what the next up and coming big collector cars would be. His answer? "Well. right now we see the late 70's and early 80's Trans Ams coming up" This is the time to BUY. Remember what happened to Hemi MOPARS during the auction height and air cooled Porsches over the past few years! When the owners of the auction house see the trends. you know the big swing is coming. Don't regret missing your window!

Note the steady idle. smooth rev. return to idle quickly and hold idle perfect.   This was from a dead cold start!  Check the water gauge in the video - it had been running all of 10 seconds (enough for me to start it and get out to start the camera).  
The mic really does zero justice for the Pontiac 400 and the exhaust.   Take SUPER SPECIAL NOTE of the working clock!!!
