The Mercedes R 107 was launched in 1971 and production continued
through to 1989. being the longest single series ever produced by
the firm. besides the G-Class utility vehicle. The R 107 replaced
the W 113 Pagoda SL in 1972 and was replaced by the R 129 SL in 1989.
The R 107 had the longest run of any Mercedes chassis. built for 18
years from 1971 to 1989. Some 237. 00 R 107 SL's were built and
about two thirds were sold in the US. The car was essentially a two
seater sports car although a small seating arrangement was
available behind the front seats. Mercedes-Benz offered a number of
engine choices over the years. the first cars in 1971 having the
350 engine. a V 8 3. 5 litre unit fitted. By 1973 a larger 4. 5 litre
V 8 was available. constructed primarily for the US market and in
1974 the 280 engine was introduced. a 2. 8 litre straight six which
was probably more suitable for the European market given the petrol
crisis during that period.
Supplied new by Reliance Motors. Chingford. (Mercedes-Benz
specialists). this attractively presented example. in Anthracite
Grey with a matching black leather interior (with headrests). is
very well appointed. Not only does it come with the original
factory third rear seat but also a matching hardtop and soft top in
excellent condition. Cruise control has been specified as well
Mexican Hat alloy wheels. central locking and correct Blaupunkt
Toronto stereo with manual and case.
Contained within the
history file are 24 service records with the most recent due to
take place immediately prior to the sale. A 10 month Mo T test
certificate will also accompany this well looked after example. br/>timeless design and good history make for sound classic car
