1958 GMC 100 Short Box

Bob Mason's Union 76 Service/Gas Station Truck  -  Survivor - NO RESERVE

Ends FATHERS DAY - JUNE 15th!!!!

This is an awesome truck. Originally bought for Bob Masons Union 76 Service Station in Carlton. Oregon.   He bought it new in 1958. and in 1959. had it painted Orange and White to match the Union 76 Logo. also had Wood Bill Boards made for the sides to promote the business.    He retired I believe around 2002-04. not sure. but retired his old Mom and Pop Business. and the truck.   He finally decided to sell it in 2011 to local resident.   I never got to meet Bob but I have seen the old service station for years. it was right on the main drag of Carlton. couldn't miss it.   I  talked to many folks in the Carlton area to find out history of this old truck and Mr. Mason.   I guess he was a very well respected gentleman in the community. he was even the Fire Chief at one time as well. everyone said he was a keeper.   This truck is a nice piece of Gas Station Automobilia. not a made up replica of a gas station truck. nothing wrong with that. but this is the real deal. what a great history. can't believe it has survived all this time. true Survivor.      As you already know finding a Chevrolet Truck is pretty easy. but GMC's are very hard to find. these trucks are Rare.   As I mentioned above this truck was repainted in 1959. Orange/White to match the Filling Station Union 76.   It originally was Dark Green. with a mint green top.   The truck does have shiny paint and is glossy. it is old though. there is a lot of chips and dings. on the truck. scatches.   There are some repairs that have been done through the years. were it has been spot painted.   This truck was not a trailer queen. it was used in this business everyday. so it does have its battle scars. but I am sure it saved a lot of vehicles lives. probably went out on some Fire Truck runs as well. since he was the Fire Chief as well. wish I new the stories it could tell.     There is some rust. but pretty isolated.    The bottom of doors. have some rust you can see in pictures.   The drivers passenger fender has some rust at the bottom.   The front corners of the rear fenders. next to bed. has some rust as well.     The eyebrows over the headlights. are in really nice shape. one has as dent. but these usually have rust issues. this truck is very solid.   Inside the truck. again very isolated. the floors were it meets the firewall has some rust holes.   Anywhere you see the rust on this truck is very easy to get to.   If you choose to have the truck repainted down the road. most of the areas will be very straight forward to fix.   I hope who ever owns in the future. keeps it original when it came to be a Union 76 truck. to keep the story and history alive.   This truck will be a good candidate for someone who wants to build a nice stock truck or hot rod as well.    Overall the body on the truck is in good shape. it is really old paint. and has lots of patina to it.   The roof gutters and channels are all very clean. no rust issues.   Please view all the pictures. nbsp;you will get a pretty good idea of what it is. underneath as well.       The interior is spartan. it is a truck. so no frills. just a work horse to get the work done.   The original seat was in decent shape. padding was decent. but it had some wear to it. it was 57 years old.   I had it redone the exact same way as I found it color and all.   I also had a new floor mat installed.     Overall for an original interior the truck looks great inside. no repainting. original door paint. and headliner. all the dash is original. all the floor paint is original.    It is radio delete.   Heater works great.   The gauges need some work. the only one working is the Oil pressure gauge.   I have not messed around under the dash to check everything. so they need some tinkering.    It is a 3spd in the column. very easy to drive.      Mechanically it is in great shape.   The engine starts right up. no issues. runs like a sewing machine.    I believe it is the original 270 GMC. it drives very nice for an old truck.   I think ol' Bob kept up on it at the service station.   It does not blow any smoke. very clean burning.   It has some minor engine leaks. but very minor. valve cover seaps a little. and the lifter cover on the side of engine seaps a little.   I did tighten up the bolts and it seamed to help.   I am not talking about a lot of leaks. maybe if you take it out for the day and park it maybe over night. you will see a couple dime size spots. pretty minor.     The transmission shifts good. the clutch feels good.   I have driven this truck many times. and it likes 55mph very well. and glides down the road.   The brakes work good as well. stops nice. no chatter. or pulling actually pretty impressive.     The tires are older whitewalls. they are in good shape. the white has some weather checking. but these tires I believe will work good for some time. no reason to change them. I like the vintage look of them.     Overall mechanically I think it is in great shape. obviously you will do little things here and there as time allows. and do regular maintenance but for the time being it is in pretty good shape. and you should be able to enjoy it right away as I have for the last little bit that I have had the opportunity to own it.

This truck is a true Survivor. was bought new by Bob Mason for his Union 76 Service Station in Carlton. Oregon.    This is a NO RESERVE. starting bid at $19. 58. yes NO RESERVE. top bid gets it.      Jason 503-910-2085

The Original Side Racks. and Advertising for Bob Mason's Union 76. very cool.       Here is a Souvenir. that the Oregon DMV gave back after it got retitled in 2012.   This goes with the truck. notice that the Title says Bob Mason Union Service.    This Title was reissued in 1974. but he did buy the truck new in 1958. and had it painted Union 76 Orange and white in 1959 for use at the station.             This is pretty cool. one day I got on the internet searching for the old filling station. and this showed up on eBay in Ohio. go figure. bought it for $10. 00         This is the Current Title for the Truck.       So here is a picture of the Old Union 76 Service Station. had 2 bay doors. someone a few years ago when it closed turned it into restaurant.   Today it looks the same but is the Carlton Bakery.   Next picture is of the Carlton Fire Station. you can see building on the right of the behind umbrella.          Bob Mason. was a long time resident of Carlton. I talked to many people in the town. and he was a prominent figure around downtown.   Even found out that he as for a time the Carlton Fire Chief.   Another gentleman told me about being a gas station attendant in the early 60's there.           Original VIN Tag. matches the title.       These are the original License Plates to the truck. they need work. but they are from 1958. and show on the older Souvenir Title.       Brand new Oak Bed. with Polished Slates and Bolts.                The seat was not in to bad of shape. had a lot of wear on drivers side. so I decided to had it covered exactly the same way. color and all.         The engine runs great. believe it is the original 270 inline 6.   Tired to find decoding off the stamp pad on the internet. maybe you might have better luck.   Here are the numbers 270932361. The engine runs very good. starts right up. and runs like a sewing machine.   The valve cover has been repainted.   The valve cover gasket and the lifter cover on the side. have a little bit of seapage.  I tightened up the bolts a little. and that was a great improvement.   If I have time. I may try to replace them before it leaves on transport. no promises though.   Other then that. engine has normal outside wear. paint etc.    Oil pan has a little seapage as well. but not bad.   At the end of the day. it may leave a few little dime size spots on the ground. so not really that bad.                                                                                                         These are original caps. repainted in very nice shape.   Had the wheels repainted blue. to give them a nice bright finish.    The whitewall tires are in good shape. hold air good. and very driveable.   The white itself you does have age to them. with small weather checking. but they are road worthy for sure.                                       Where else would he have had it serviced?       3spd on the column. horn works. blinkers. taillights all work.    Yes it is radio delete. heater works. all business for this GMC.   The odometer and speedometer are not working.    Oil Pressure works and reads really good.   Temp gauge is not working but wants to or fuel gauge not working.             New floor mat in it as well.             Original Washer bag. pretty cool.
Both sides of the floor. need a little work.   This truck is very clean. but it does have some rust. but is very isolated areas. you can see everything in pictures nothing to hide. solid old truck. with an awesome past.           While I had the seat out getting redone. too the opportunity to clean the original interior paint. looks great.
