Current customer rating:
Well. it's Summer--time to drop the top and cruise around town in a classic example of a true sports car.
1980 was the last year of production for the MGB. after more than 500. 00 were produced. The Limited Edition was an homage to the line--US dealers were shipped standard cars. and "add-on" kits for the Black models. with custom wheels. stripes. luggage rack. front spoiler and glove box badge.
I am the second owner of this car. having bought it from the original owner (who had it undercoated when new) in Kent. OH.
I drove it back from Cleveland to L. A. in late 2008. and it's been living in my garage ever since.
Alas. my girlfriend doesn't appreciate British engineering. so I now have a BMW Z 3 for my weekend motoring along with my regular driver.
I need to free up garage space.
I had the car gone over and tweaked while in Cleveland. by Steve at Omni Specialties. a British car expert.
I spent $8. 00+ on the following:
>New SU carburetor--classic style. but larger throat for more power
>Stainless Steel exhaust system
>Replacement 5-speed transmission from Datsun 240/260/280 Z
>Cruise Control--this and the 5-speed make for more comfortable long distance trips
>New wheels--but they have the same LE look to them
>New convertible top--with premium acrylic fabric
>The seat "insides" were rebuilt--but they still have the original vinyl seat covers. then covered with sheepskin for cool seats on hot days
>The entire cockpit has insulating foil for more comfortable climate control
>Everything in the engine compartment was repainted. repaired or replaced while at Omni
>The emissions control equipment (pump. pipes. gulp valve) was removed--exempt in Ohio over 25 years old
The car was able to be registered in California by my previous mechanic. but he retired and my new mechanic can't get a passing California smog test without re-installing the EC equipment back on the car--it's not exempt in California.
So. I'm hoping that someone from out-of-state (with more lenient smog restrictions) will be able to buy this car.
Otherwise. I can find an MG mechanic who will re-install and get the car certified for $1400.
I would agree to pay half of this if I get my reserve for the car.
