1973 Barkas B-1000

Barkas was a division of the Saxon Automobile Company that was founded in 1957 in Frakenberg/Saxony. Germany. The Barkas was first developed as a panel van to be the “workhorse” of East Germany. The vehicle proved so capable and dependable. that they soon became police. fire. and military vehicles. In 1961 the passenger version was introduced as the B-1000. The 1000 cc. 3 cylinder-two stroke engine was capable of producing 46 hp and carrying up to one ton. It was built by the Wartburg Company of East Germany. The van is a front wheel drive and is a ball to drive. The two stroke sound is real joy.
This example is one of 3 known to exist in the US. It was imported from Prague last year after a full service was competed. The listing claims a clean title but unfortunately we don't have a title and were forced to list it that way because of certain E-bay rules. We do have the original bill of lading and can provide a bill of sale as well. The van is ready to jump in and enjoy. The van is 100% complete and was stored inside a barn in Prague so it has only small surface rust in a few spots. The interior is original and rear seats need recovering. It is also a great candidate for a simple restoration that will wow at any German Car Club event.
Full importation papers accompany sale. Bill of sale only.
