Volvo p1800s manual 1965 rally road car for sale
Current customer rating:
We are moving to the states. all my cars must go.
This is my 1965 Volvo p 1800 s. I have just had it painted and it looks great. This was not because it was a rust bucket it was because I wanted to make it look fresher. I have pics before the paint and there is barely any difference apart from in the flesh. It drives very well. it is fitted with an overdrive switch next to the indicator stalk like my old amazon. Mechanically it is very sound. fluids are new and fresh and have always been changed to maximise reliability during the classic car rally challenge. It is fitted with the expensive Jensen airdamn grill by the windscrreen. I also have the front fish mouth Jensen grill in front of the radiator. There is a full rollcage and harnesses including the original seat belts. The car has not been thrashed in the normal sense of "a rally" it has just been prepared for road journeys and modifications fall within the regulations to enter these rallies.
I have owned it for 6 months. I intended to Improve its appearance having a genuine interest in cars I love to own myself. which is what I have done. There is no leaks from underneath and its pretty damn solid. There is some minor welding required to the inner arches where the wheels pick up stones. I am willing to do this at your cost for an mot if required. Most people like to carry out this work themselves saving a few hundred and allowing peace of mind knowing they have lovingly carried out the work with their own hand. The passenger door also needs adjustment so it closes better.
Back brakes are on a little but become freer the more you use it. could be the handbrake mechanism.
Its very drivable and does not pull at all but they will need attention. I also fitted a new Varta battery. a brand new windscreen including new rubbers front and back when the windows came out for paint. The carpets are original. faded and would require replacement to improve the inside. The chrome could be better but I have it all. not just the back wing pieces as shown. They are the most expensive trim on this car at £150 a piece x 6! That along with the interior dials. for which I have an abundance of!Everything else is available and good value. it would be fun continuing to improve this vehicle while you use it. The engine has the letters JAG printed on the top and its running twin SU carbs. runs extremely well. good poke considering its a 65! It is the original volvo engine and running an unleaded modified head. I can MOT it ready for re-import which will obviously include the welding at your cost to the UK (which is free and easy to do at any DVLA office if necessary or you can take as is on the republic of Ireland ZV plate. I have all the paper work necessary to do this. In general. a rare early car in fantastic condition. Not concourse by any means but very reliable and useable. I have an owners manual. lot of rally history with it. including rally rules. tickets to France etc. a couple of photos. I also have the full Irish ownership document and some old MOTS. No real substantial service records or original books. Mileage shows below 1300. absolutely no idea what it is but the engine is very sweet. There are minor jobs to complete. speedo and rev counter stopped working all of a sudden. Im sure there is other minor things. so bid accordingly.
