VW Golf Mk1 Cabriolet owned and looked after by us since 2012, used as my wife's daily driver until 2015. It was then subjected to a full complete strip down and meticulous rebuild replacing every wearing part with oem replacements or equivalent. The car was far from worn out and was completely solid but everything was starting to show its age including the original paintwork and I wanted to make it new again as it has very obviously been kept undercover and used carefully all its life. The car is an ex German car that I believe was imported to the UK and professionally converted to RHD by its armed forces owner in 1996. The car is a GLS model that has been carefully enhanced.

ENGINE

1.8 DX GTI bottom end over bored 0.50 with Nural pistons, Mahle racing bearings, TDi oil pump. Gti vibration damper pulley. Carburettor cylinder head, skimmed .010" new bronze valve guides, 270 degree camshaft, new water pump / fuel pump, GTI oil cooler, weber carburettor, reconditioned alternator /starter motor. Stainless steel 4 branch manifold, new old stock old school Janspeed exhaust, all new sensors seals, fasteners, clips and pipework. Low mileage mk3 GTI 5 speed gearbox, stripped, inspected and rebuilt with new seals. This improves fuel economy and driver comfort cruising at motorway speeds. Overhauled driveshafts. It runs around 3000rpm at legal speeds. It's jetted to suit its current tune, returning well over 40 mpg on a run and it is very nippy despite the longer gearing

SUSPENSION

Bilstein B4 shockers with new GTI spec springs, new track rod ends, poly bushed steering rack, new ball joints, wishbones, wheel bearings, drums GTI discs overhauled callipers. New rear axle bushes, New top suspension mounts, OEM GTI anti roll bar Top/ bottom /longitudal strut bars to minimise normal cabriolet scuttle and improve handling and crashworthiness.  All fully dialled in by an alignment specialist who used to prep rally cars.

BODY

Fully stripped prepped and painted to a high standard in its very rare original colour. (I believe the only Mk1 Golf in the UK built in this colour grey). New windscreen and rubber, new top seal. All voids in body heavily treated with wax seal. All new OEM window seals, every clip on the bodywork and trim renewed.

All chrome trim restored.

INTERIOR

Light grey leather seats and door cards in good used condition, no cracks on dash or door tops.   As new retro alpine tape head unit, multidisc, amp and correct speakers.

I could go on and on, basically this is the nearest thing to a new one that provides massive amounts of smiles per gallon.

I have loads of pictures from the last nine years of ownership. Not built as a show queen but to be driven and shown all over the UK. No px no test pilots no overseas sales, basically you come and have a proper look and we go from there. Views by appointment only as car lives in a heated garage away from my house. Built to last be used and enjoyed.

Next VW project forces regrettable sale. Used and stored correctly and this car will only grow in value.
