Apologies for the formatting of my ad. I lost the original template

Welcome  to the auction for my beloved VW which I have decided to sell due to complete lack of use.

This is  one of the campers created by John Nixon in the sixties and sold out of  Edgemont California. The van is a rust free dry climate example spending  all its life in California (with supporting paperwork) retaining its  original black Californian plates until 2003 when it was imported to the  UK and has been in my hands ever since and kept in dry storage.

I had  seen an example of the Sundial in a Las Vegas Motor museum and was keener  on the design than a number of others I'd seen. I especially liked the  louvered style windows often seen on Airstreams of the period.

I looked at many examples when I was searching  for a split screen camper van and none met the condition or styling I  wanted from a camper I was going to own. This example is far above the  standard that these cars are usually available at and is ready to become  part of a collection or used daily - it is turnkey and ready to go!

The car is located in  central Edinburgh and I welcome viewings. I have also had the car  professionally valeted so it is ready to go!

The  paintwork on the Camper is  sealing wax red (L53) over (L472) beige grey which suits the van very  well.

Bodywork  wise the car is very very straight. and free of the usual ill executed  repairs that haunt this model. When I had the car on the ramps for its  last MOT I could not see any evidence of corrosion. which as  I'm sure you know in splittys is exceptionally rare.

All door bottoms. seams. sills. all the usual places - rock solid and free of even a hint of  blistering.

All the chrome work is  excellent. and I have fitted Samba trim which really sets it off. The roof  rack is a creative industries item and is both practical and stylish

The window  seals are good and the car does not leak. surviving the jet wash well!

All four tyres are polished  EMPI 5 replicas which are immaculate with no curbing.

The  tyres are all matched premium Yokohamas.

The spare is the original  steel wheel which has been fully media blasted and painted sealing wax red  with a new tyre in case of emergencies!

The  Interior is the original sundial conversion which has aged wonderfully.

I've had  the linoleum floor covering replaced professionally with the closest match  to the original and looks great

I had all the seats  re-trimmed in beige Napa leather piped in the same red as the exterior and  are as new throughout.

I have also had period style seat belts put in with  Wolfsburg crests in both the front and interior cabins.

I've  had an original period Blaupunkt radio installed which has been modified  to accept a 3. 5mm jack to play mp3/phone. The speakers were up rated and  sit in the original wooden roof lining.

I've had a gas yacht heater installed in the cupboard under the bed so it is  very warm inside in any weather.

The van is fully insulated  with 'dynamat' to keep warm!

I've also had a removable hammock bed put in over the front seat that sleeps  a child.

The  curtains are fabric from the mid 60's originally designed for a yacht of  the period found in the archives of now closed interiors firm.

I also had an extra battery powered electrical system installed with a  powerful 1500W inverter (I was hoping to run our close to matching  coloured expresso machine off it but it was too much hassle!) and to mains  sockets from a second gel battery in the engine bay. great for appliances.

There is  also a safety star mounted inside the rear window which lights up when the  brakes are applied.

Mechanically wise. as with  any looked after Volkswagen. the van is absolutely reliable. suitable for  both daily and occasional use. With ample power it keeps up with traffic  without issue and is a pleasure to drive.

I had  the engine replaced four years ago with a brand new 1500cc item which  works perfectly. starting every time.  It has done no more than 1000 miles  (and that is being very generous) since being installed.

The bus has been lowered  but the front beam is adjustable  to return to ride height as can the rear spindles. The steering box has also been replaced.

For security I have fitted a comprehensive alarm which is  excellent. (full details will be supplied to the buyer).
