VW Camper, 1970 Early Bay Westfalia, Low light bay window van for sale
Current customer rating: (532 votes ) based onIt was imported from California at the end of last year & is a pretty sound van. It is UK registered in my name & is taxed (free) & MOT'd.
I have fitted all 4 new ball joints. a steering idler pin & a recon steering box. None of which were cheap! I fitted brand new Hella H4 headlights too.
Rear lights are rewired to conform with UK regs. The indicators are in the reversing lights.
It has a strong 1600tp motor which is sweet & the gearbox is great too. It all shifts nice with no problems.
I have set the valve clearances & points etc. It was in a pretty good state of tune any way which is always a good sign.
The drum brakes work fine. and not had to have them apart.
I recently took it to the Volksworld show & it behaved perfectly.
Mechanically it is really up together. so should be good for thousands of miles to come.
The body work is very nice & clean. It was repainted in California. due to the old paint being tired & faded.
I can't see any signs of damage underneath which can be a problem with imported vans.
The body shouldn't need any attention at all if looked after properly.
Only moody bits are a finger size hole in the inner front valance & the normal battery tray temporary repair. The battery tray can be repaired easily without getting into painting the rear corner. It is isolated to the tray itself.
None of which are in any immediate danger of getting much worse. so could be done at your leisure.
The only annoying thing is the fuel gauge doesn't work. but on the plus side. I have put a load in so it doesn't run out!
That's the only bad bit really.
This is a really good van. you can easily put some of your personal touches on it & be away camping in no time. It is really nice to drive. it pulls nice & strong.
There are a few jobs to do inside to the interior with bits of trim & cupboard latches. but nothing major.
The rear has been re-trimmed in the stripy material & the fronts have the sheep skin covers. The front seats are a little tatty under the covers but are the originals.
Viewing is recommended along with a test drive. I don't think you will be disappointed.
I have a few more photo's & can easily take some more.
No silly offers or P/X please.
