A genuine English vehicle - not a German fire engine!
As far I know this lovely old Transit spent its first 30 to 40 years as a mini bus on a West Suffolk air base. which probably explains its incredibly low mileage and how it managed to survive for over 40 years.
I acquired the van in the summer of 2011. it was registered to the air base and therefore still MOT exempt at the time.
I took it to my local Mot station for its first ever Mot test. they weighed and configured it. sorted out the blank log book details and now all it needs is a normal Mot as a group 4 vehicle at any normal car mot testing station. They also found that it had a leaking front wheel cylinder so they replaced all the cylinders and brake shoes on both sides. The clutch was juddery from lack of use so they fitted me a new three part heavy duty clutch and a new clutch cable.
As well as the cheap and easy Mot. it is now LEZ (London emission zone) exempt. It is registered as a Historic vehicle so it gets free road tax. My fully comprehensive classic insurance is only £75 a year and it is also inner city Congestion zone exempt.
It was rebuilt by its previous owners. as far as I can see they have removed the mini bus windows and welded in new metal plates. They also renewed both front wings. both rear mudguards. nbsp;both sills and both door steps. all with brand new metal panels. It was then re-sprayed in Ford Diamond White instead of the camouflage green. It is correctly registered on the V5 as a Historic van.
This van is well known and loved by many classic car enthusiasts . for the last few years I have used it as a display vehicle selling Automobilia and car Memorabilia at Essex classic car events. So to all my regular car show customers. I must say sorry but I do have to go. I suffered a major heart attack and I need to retire. I have already sold most of my vehicle collection. only this van. two more cars plus some Automobilia stock is left to sell. Watch my Ebay if you are interested.
About the van :-
The Essex V4 2000 engine is quiet and strong with no fluid leaks. rattles or exhaust smoke. It also has an Alternator. a new H/d battery and has solid state ignition. it is very reasonable on petrol and is just about able to keep up with todays traffic. The gears are easy to use and not noisy. the steering is quite light and it does not wander. The brakes are power assisted and very good for a historic vehicle. It has four internal battery saving led lights. a cab cooling fan. electric screen wash. two speed wipers and emergence 4 way flashers. A period radio cassette player is also fitted. The heater works well and the electrics all work as they should. It has inertia reel seat belts. a spare wheel. trolly jack and the special wheel nut removing tool that is made just for the six wheel transit.
The semi Hi top roof is all metal with a nice plastic inner skin. it has a built in roof air vent that cannot be seen in the pictures. The roof rack is quite recent but of period design to suit this type of roof. The wooden inner side walls are filled with sound and heat fibre insulation.
All the collectors posters and metal garage signs as pictured are included. also the roof rack. Mitchelin man. spot lights and grill badges. The drivers hand book. a rare main dealer spare parts catalogue and a workshop manual are also included.
The front window rubber is a bit perished so a new one is included in the sale. The period spot-lights are new old stock. complete with bulbs but are not wired in. All the keys work fine and there are also door dead locks fitted. The standard steering lock works as it should and an ignition killing anti-theft switch is also fitted.
The weight is 2020 Kg and it is 18' long by almost 8' high and 7' foot wide. The rear step stands 14" above the ground. The two locking storage boxes or rear seats. are 8' long by 1. 5 feet high and 1. 5 feet wide. They could seat up to 10 adults but without seat belts so I have only used them for storage.
Any inspection or test. at any time to suit you. no problem. just ask. It is all ready to go - just get in and drive it as far as you like.
Any cleared payment is Ok. I will be happy to oversee the loading if you send a transporter. I recommend Shiply for the best deal and I do not mind waiting a week or two for its collection.
Good luck with the auction and thank you for your interest!
