1938 Morris 8 Series E 4dr Tourer - 'Lily' in Excellent older restored condition

Hi there. Thanks for looking. I must stress that this auction is on behalf of my Father. and the Car lives with him in TROWBRIDGE. Wiltshire. NOT Yeovil. Somerset where I am.

Up for auction. as I say. is my Father's pride and Joy 'Lily' - a 1938 Morris 8 Series E 4dr Tourer.

The Body is of that of a standard saloon with suicide doors finished in Black/over blue. with a full length sunroof. and wire-spoked wheels. Other features include a Full leather interior. a fold-out windscreen. electric single wiper. roll-up windows all-round. luggage rack and a period picnic basket which I also included in the sale.

My Dad has owned Lily for approximately 18 months. and has loved her. however its something he's always wanted to own and has now fulfilled that wish and simply wants to move on. Her previous owner owned her many years. and while she's an older restoration. she's still in extremely good order for 76 years old as you will see from the pictures.

She has surpassed our expectations on just how simple and reliable she is. Last year she completed "100 years of Morris" which saw many Morris Cars (at their own pace) visit 100 Villages to commemorate a century of these glorious old cars. - Lily took it all in her stride. and even earned Dad a photo of him and her in the local paper.

Now while we have masses of paperwork. the owner did stress that the 885cc engine was rebuilt less than 3 years ago. this will explain her smooth idling and eagerness to start. - However. on quick examination with Dad. I could not find any bills to back this up. - But we've no reason to disbelieve him. or my Dad's trust or Lily's ability!

On the road she tends to wonder. but they all do. 40-45mph is all she'll do. but as I say. doesn't struggle. - just takes her time. and you would to if you were 76! built in an entirely different era than today! - but its a blast to drive. especially like today when we had the sunroof back and the windscreen up. Brakes are good. for a 76yro car. Gearbox is a 'crash' gearbox. (3 speed) no synchromesh. so double clutch is sometimes required if approaching a roundabout and wishing to slow using the engine. - Please don't turn up expecting her to drive as well as the 3yro Audi you pulled up in. You will look foolish.

Other things to mention. Always been garaged with us and her previous owner. polishes up beautifully. - Trafficators work very well (flip-up illuminated indicators) MOT and TAX exempt. Not currently MOT'd but doesn't rocket up the M4 daily. so nothing too alarming. Tires are all the same. inc spare and are excellent (see pics)

Fuel gauge doesn't work. have been looking for one for a while. still not came across one. speedo is temperamental. but works when it pleases. and today (as she never goes out in the rain) tried the wiper. but the wiper motor sounds. but no wiper movement. - Everything else in fine order.
