1969 Triumph TR6 PI for sale
Current customer rating:
This is a superb car for the summer. It is the most desirable incarnation of the TR6. a 1969 Triumph TR6 PI. UK RHD. 150bhp. CP Chassis Number with Overdrive. It is finished in Signal Red with Light Tan Interior and is in a lovely condition. ready for its next owner.
To modernise the Triumph TR5 that had evolved from the Michelotti designed TR4. Triumph looked to produce a new modern body. They initially turned to Michelotti. the designer of the original TR4 but the Italian was fully committed with other projects. Instead. Triumph commissioned Karmann of Germany. The task was difficult as Karmann had to produce a new body style whilst retaining much of the original structure. The restyle included a new nose. wings and a new tail. The result was the 'Kamm' tailed TR6. Produced between 1969 and 1976. the Triumph TR6 became the best selling Triumph at the time with 94. 19 units sold. The TR6 featured the inline six cylinder engine from the TR5. In the US the engine was fuelled by carburettors whilst cars supplied to the rest of the world. including the UK. were fuel injected. The home market TR6 initially produced 150 bhp but was later detuned to 125 bhp. Due to their greater power output. the early models are sought after amongst the Triumph enthusiasts.
The TR presented today is a very early. matching numbers example. manufactured in 1969 and with the early chassis number prefix. 'CP'. The last owner purchased the TR in 2000 and since then it has only covered approximately 1. 00 miles since. The car has had recent re-commissioning works undertaken. These works included four new tyres. a reconditioned steering rack. overhauled brakes. suspension and a full service.
The signal red paintwork. although not in show condition. presents well with no evidence of corrosion and a worthy note is that the engine bay is particularly smart. The TR still sits on its original steel wheels. Internally the tan trim looks very smart and original with the benefit of the original steering wheel. not often seen these days. The double duck hood works well with no obvious signs of rips or tears. On a recent short test. the TR felt remarkably sharp with the car having the added bonus of an overdrive gearbox.
With an MoT test certificate. valid until January 2015. and free road tax. this TR6 presents an opportunity to acquire an early and largely original car that any new owner would be proud of. There is no compromise here. these 150bhp CP models are the only TR6 to own.
