1970 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2
s/n 13145. engine no. 13145
Red with Black Leather Interior
At the time of its introduction. the 365 GT 2+2 represented significant advances for Ferrari. particularly their 2+2 models. The combination of independent suspension all around for the first time on a 2+2 model and the new torque tube arrangement made the cars quieter. more comfortable. and more capable than ever before. The inclusion of additional convenience and luxury features further enhanced the car's comfort. with standardized power steering and air conditioning. The familiar front-mounted 4. 4 liter V12 and attractive Pininfarina styling ensured that the car retained all of the traditional positive Ferrari traits. ensuring an authentic vintage Ferrari experience and an excellent value compared to other front-engined V12 Ferraris from the same period. In all. just 800 examples were built. making these cars quite rare as well.
This particular car was completed in April of 1970. originally finished in Blu Ribot with Beige interior. It was sold by Bill Harrah's Modern Classic Motors to its first owner. believed to be in California. By 1976. the car had 5000 miles and was offered for sale by an owner in Los Angeles. In 1979. it was advertised in San Francisco with 35. 00 miles. and by 1982. the car had 39. 00 miles and was offered for sale by Fantasy Junction. In 1987. the car was listed in the Ferrari Owners Club roster as belonging to Jerald Jones. the president of Curecrete Chemical Company. The car sat for many years and currently shows 43. 00 miles. which is believed to be from new.
In February of 2014. the car received extensive servicing by Patrick Ottis at a cost of $7719. 98. Included in this work was new soft brake lines. new bridge pipe on the left rear brake caliper. new rear Koni shock absorbers. restored rear sway bar links with new silent bloc bushings. tune up. and significant remedial work to the ignition system. The ignition wires and spark plugs were replaced. and the wiring for the primary power from the ignition switch and to the ignition coils was redone as necessary. with new terminals. and wiring as necessary. as well as the removal of non-original and unused wiring. The timing of the motor was reset. the carburetors adjusted. the throttle linkage lubricated. and the accelerator pumps lubricated and adjusted as well. The ride height and preload were also set. A compression check was performed as well. indicating compression readings of 150psi to 180psi on all 12 cylinders.
Cosmetically. the car is a nice driver level example with lustrous paintwork over a very nice body. The window frames were not removed so close inspection reveals some minor and superficial paint imperfections. but the overall presentation of the paintwork is strong. The body appears to be free of corrosion and is solid and very straight. The panels fit and operate well. especially the doors. The chrome is in good condition. with no pitting and some surface scratches. as well as a small dent on top of the front left bumper. The car sits on nice Borrani wire wheels and is equipped with Cibié headlamps. The glass and lights are generally very good to excellent other than some cracks in the front left turn signal lens.
The interior is in very good condition with excellent leather upholstery on the seats. The carpets are also excellent. as the headliner. which appears to be unrestored. The dashboard is very nice with some minor warping at the base of the windscreen on the passenger's side. The switches. controls. and instruments are in very nice shape. as is the wood. The car is fitted with a period Blaupunkt AM/FM shortwave radio. The driver's side armrest shows some minor wear. as do the rear seat arm rests. The steering wheel is intact and in good shape although the varnish is somewhat discolored. Some aftermarket speakers have been added to the rear parcel shelf.
The engine compartment is very nicely presented. being unusually clean and detailed compared to most driver level cars. The airbox retains its original decals and the paint is in excellent condition. which holds true for the valve covers as well. The inner fenders are in very nice condition as well. as is the underside of the hood. The trunk appears to have its original carpets. which are excellent considering this. The trunk is quite spacious. making this an excellent touring car. The car has a Campagnolo alloy spare.
This is a great opportunity to acquire a very nice driver level 2+2 that has been recently serviced and has many decades of California ownership history. The car runs and drives well and provides all the definitive elements of the classic Ferrari experience at a considerably lower cost than most vintage Ferraris. It is certainly among the last of the classic front-engined V12 Ferraris that remains remotely affordable. but values have increased significantly in recent years. as they have for all classic twelve cylinder Ferraris. It comes with invoices for recent work by Patrick Ottis as well as a history report compiled by Marcel Massini.
