1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS featured in Car Craft & Hot Rod Magazine NO RESERVE! for sale
Current customer rating: (440 votes ) based onIt originally was sold new as a white coupe with the Rally Sport trim package. a 327 cid engine. Powerglide transmission. 10-bolt non-posi differential. power steering. and factory air conditioning. It was manufactured in Los Angeles. California. My brother purchased the car in 1981 from a sailor stationed at Lemoore Naval Air Station in Lemoore California. He removed the engine. tore it down. and had the engine rebuilt and balanced by H&J Engineering in Fresno. California. He then enrolled in college and lost interest in the vehicle. I bought it from him in March of 1983. The vehicle was reassembled (without the air conditioning OR heating). and later painted in May 1983 with Dupont Centari #48 red acrylic enamel. The Camaro was then driven to Sacramento. CA. for the Car Craft Street Machine Nationals where it was photographed by Hot Rod magazine. Those pictures ended up in the July 1984 issue of Hot Rod.
In 1984. I replaced the Powerglide with a Muncie M-21 four-speed transmission. installed power-assisted front disc brakes from a 1969 SS Camaro. installed new Enkei wheels and added the NOS nitrous oxide system (it's had less than 2 bottles of NOS run thru it in 30 years). Also added were bucket seats and steering wheel from a 1975 Chevrolet Vega. as was new carpet and upholstery. I went back to the Car Craft Street Machine Nationals in May 1984 where Car Craft magazine asked to photograph the car. Those pictures ended up in the May 1985 issue of Car Craft magazine.
In 1994 a self-contained heater was installed which still is installed today. I still have much of the old a/c venting. heater cores. evaporator "suitcase" etc. that came off the car when it was disassembled in 1982.
In 2003 my wife encouraged me to enter it in the church car show. so the purse strings opened up and the Super Sport hood. bumble bee stripe. and SS emblems were added. as was new carpet and door sill plates. New tires were installed last year.
The car has been garaged regularly since I've owned it. It has around 35. 00 miles on the rebuilt engine. most of which happened prior to 1989. Since that time the car has only been driven once or twice a year to local car shows. and a couple of weekend trips to the Central California coast. It shows well. but upon close inspection you can see where the rock dings and parking lot rash have been touched up. It has never been professionally restored. It still has the original suspension. and most of the weatherstripping. door gaskets. etc. are original too. The drivers side door key was vandalized in 1985 and never repainted. The cowl has a dent. as does the radiator support filler panel. And now. there is some rust that is starting to show around the drivers side rear wheel well. As I stated earlier. the car has been a driver. Mostly over twenty years ago. but I don't want anyone to get the impression that this car is perfect. because it isn't. Having said that. the car looks great. has quick acceleration. stops equally well. doesn't smoke at all. and is a kick to drive.
